I only saw one other Toyota truck on the field; 1994 regular cab 2WD. I did get pictures of a 2nd Gen Taco coming in, but I think it was a spectator; Lots of other Toyotas on the field though, including a 1996 Hiace van, a 1989 Cressida, and so many Celicas and Supras that I lost count! There were two Volkswagen Caddy pickups and a few newer Nissans, as far as pickups; I actually spent most of my time in the Citroen section!

    Forgot to post this...

My truck got a lot of protein on the drive back home from Carlisle last Saturday evening; I am definitely not looking forward to cicada season, and I do t think my truck is either!

Everybody who reads this knows that I go to a ton of car shows annually; I've gotten into my share of trouble taking pictures of cars and trucks outside of car shows, so now for the most part I stick to car shows. People let me sit in their vehicles (They always offer; I never ask), people see me taking a picture through an open window and assure me that it's okay to open the door for a better shot, and one time in 2014 a guy ended up letting me take his 2004 Chevy Silverado SS for a spin after I chatted with him for less than ten minutes! You get the point; People at car shows tend to like me!

My fellow TW members also know that I am a huge GM nerd (second only to my love of Toyota vehicles, of course); I am a member of a number of groups on Facebook, including one called "Underappreciated Survivors (1973-2003)". I was at a cruise night in Levittown this evening, and a white 1994 Pontiac Sunbird convertible showed up. There is another red 1994 Sunbird convertible that makes frequent appearances at local shows in my area, and I'd say I'm on friendly terms with the older couple who owns it.

So, this white Sunbird shows up, and I immediately walk over to chat with the owner and take pictures. The guy driving it was a burly bearded Vietnam vet in his 60s, and his passenger was a woman probably in her 40s, who I thought was his wife. I start taking pictures of the car while chatting with the owner, and all is going fine until I lean in to get an interior shot (the top was down). The woman kinda freaks out and tells me to stop taking pictures of her car; I give her a classic "WTF?" look and say "Lady, this is a car show..."

At this point she stops talking to me and starts talking to the guy she was with, who I quickly found out was her dad and not her husband; She is freaking the hell out...

*"I don't want him taking pictures of my car!" "I don't want him taking pictures of my stuff!"* Just acting like a child! o_O

I began to think that this woman wasn't all there, and her father confirmed it; He actually told his daughter that if she didn't stop, they would be leaving. He then told me that I was fine, that his daughter "had problems", and to continue taking my pictures and just walk away. It was after the interior shot (third picture) that the daughter freaked out on me...

It was after the interior shot that the daughter freaked out on me; Note the info card on the dash just above the gauge cluster, which is proof that this car was in the show and not some random car I found in the spectator parking area!

So the elderly couple with the red Sunfire who I know from other shows arrived a short time later and I told them what had happened; They were not surprised, and explained that their friend's daughter had mental problems and was very protective of her stuff. Here's a picture of the two 1994 Sunbirds together...

    TuesdayMay18th2021 037.jpg TuesdayMay18th2021 036.jpg

So, I am overprotective of my truck too, but I have entered it in shows before and quite frankly I'm flattered if I see someone taking pictures of it; I don't think the daughter understood the concept of how a car show is supposed to work, and her dad took my side (though while he let me take pictures of the car he wasn't the friendliest guy in the world, either). Also, the daughter kept referring to the Pontiac as her car, even though I found out she did not have a license and thus didn't drive; She actually got some sort of commemorative plaque at the end of the show, which was awarded to her and not her dad. The woman had to be at least 40, but she seemed to have the mentality of 1st grader on a playground with a new toy car; I cut her quite a bit of slack because she clearly had mental problems that were far beyond her control, but I think her dad needs to explain to her how things work at car shows...

One time I actually shined up my truck and entered it in a cruise night in Morrisville, in either 2017 or 2018; It was a hot evening, and people wanted to be in the shade. This guy showed up in a little sports car of some sort after I'd arrived (I think it was a Lotus 7) and parked next to me. I went to enter my truck in the show, and when I came back to put some stuff in the truck, I found that the old fart who owned the Lotus had set up his folding chair on the driver's side of my truck. Not only was he was blocking access to my truck, but he was practically touching it. My truck was not lifted at the time, but it was still fairly tall and provided a lot more shade than his tiny little car; I was pissed. I stopped in my tracks, glared at him, and was like "DUDE!"

He was dumbfounded as to why I was getting annoyed at him until I told him it was my truck, and I stared him down until he picked up his chair and moved; I did not have a problem with him for the rest of the show...

Why do people think it’s okay to do that? Gen Zs and younger millennials I can understand, but not older people... o_O

On another note, it has been exactly ten years since I finally got my driver’s license! I’ve been pulled over five times since May 2017, and I’ve gotten three tickets for relatively minor offenses (I took all three to court, got them reduced, and as a result got a fine but no points), but I’ve managed to to make it through a decade as a licensed driver without...

    • Totaling my truck or any other vehicles
    • Losing my driving privileges
    • Getting even one point on my license

I did hit a bird with my mom’s Nissan Murano like six years ago, and I would be shocked if it survived, but that’s been the only casualty and I hope it stays that way!

Saw this in the gas line at BJ’s today; 1970 Buick GSX! Unlike the crazy lady from yesterday, this guy was rather flattered that I took such an interest in his car!

    Goodnight, John...

Got a text from my neighbor's 60-something mother-in-law just before 11:30pm, asking if I could go to Wawa and get her a couple packs of cigarettes; She has a valid driver's license, but hasn't actually driven in like six years or more, and said she would pay me five bucks. I said sure, got the cigarettes without incident, and brought them back; She ended up letting me keep all of the change, which added up to a decent amount of money!
