I kid because surely this can’t be the same vehicle, but apparently there’s a rash of silver trucks being driven into the water in Wildwood. Probably has to do with aliens. Or giant squid?

Truck Stuck In N. Wildwood Surf

Yesterday afternoon a very interesting thing took place on the North Wildwoodbeach.
Roughly around 3 pm today, 911 received a phone call that a silver truck had gotten stuck on the North Wildwood beach around 5th Avenue.
Due to the erosion that’s taking place on the beach, the truck was pinned up against a two-foot sand cliff. Quickly the tide starts to move inland causing the truck to get stuck in the mud.
North Wildwood Police Department and North Wildwood Public Works responded to the call along with Ladder 2.
At first, they attempted to use a small skid steer loader to pull the truck out from behind but unfortunately, the tide came in so quickly that the loader got stuck.
By this point, the water was up to the door jams of the truck.
Around 6 pm the truck was pulled out of the surf with the help of a Caterpillar hydraulic excavator.
The excavator attached a chain to the tow hook and pulled the truck backwards up the sand foot sand cliff.
Thank you to the NYPD, NWPW, and Ladder 2 for their hard work.
As a reminder, you need a permit to drive your truck on the beach. If you do have a permit you need to keep an eye on the tide chart of this will happen to you!

 

So the truck was not a total loss...?

It would have to be the latter since the beach is like 1/2 mile wide and flat as crap, you aren't rolling into it unless you put your tires right on that edge like an idiot.

the driver messed up, but so did the little loader operator. that was a big and fast ask of that small loader, especially since the tide was incoming. mistakes happen.

 

The daily tide chart for that NJ ocean pier location shows a 3.5 ft swing between high and low over 5.5 hours. This is with a new moon, so one of the wider tide swings in the cycle. That can creep up pretty damn quick when you’re on a flat beach. Time flies when you’re seeing waves crash against your tires...not to mention the surf sucking out the sand underneath them.

Some people take “it’s a free country” to mean devoid of responsibility. That includes this group and those that pass on the right(or even the shoulder) at 10 mph over the limit as well. Courtesy goes both ways.
