    Evening all:
Interesting Ken, I have seen many planes flying at altitude, some just the contrails, what I saw in the sky also could have flown rings around anything I have ever seen, a normal plane would look like a turtle running the hundred compared to Usain Bolt. At the last stop it sat there a few seconds and then also went vertical and shot up into space and got smaller and smaller until it was no longer visible. NO WAY, NO HOW, was that our technology!!!
I saw that in I believe late 1966 while standing outside in the chow line at boot camp, so that was about 55 yrs. ago, I have run that through my mind many many times since then, something I will never forget as long as I have my faculties!

I've pretty well trained my family that I don't text... period.

But when I advertise a vehicle for sale on KSL, even if you say clearly that you don't text, people insist of texting. But yeah, good information on the notification thing. I'll try that.

Good morning fellow porch dwellers!!! I'm loving this hot weather here in PA!! Low 80s yesterday and supposed to hit 85 today. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

Lynn got home from visiting her sister in Georgia last evening - all is right with the world again. I think I'll work on some small projects and install the new MESO toy in my truck this morning. This afternoon I'll be in the pool if you need me.

    Be safe!!

We text with the kids.. that's how they want to communicate these days. We have to use whatever method they want, or we wouldn't be able to communicate with them.:notsure:
I made a special effort to email/telephone our new land line number to all, a few years ago.. only a couple of older family members have ever used it. Plenty of junk calls though, so I know it's working.. everything that is, except the do not call list.

    Good Morning Folks.
Disconnected the house phone a year or so ago because of spam calls. Never missed it. 2 year contract with the phone company was up so I got a plan with no home phone or set top box(We still have a cable card for the TIVO) and upgraded the wifi and it is $50 dollars cheaper. Looking into some of the streaming channels to see if it is worthwhile cutting the cable to the TIVO. Texting is what people prefer over talking. I am still trying to figure out some of the shortcut phrases the kids use...
    Enjoy the pool Mark.
Have a great day folks and be safe.

I am getting ready to cut off my land line. I might get 2 real calls a week, all the rest are spam, scams, or dead air. Also looking to cut cable too. You should check out Antenna Man on Youtube. He lives up your way and his channel is packed with information for cord cutters.

All this talk about tools had me reminiscing about tools I made for a specific job. To me those tools are the best ones in my collection. Even thought the need for the tool is gone I still have the tool.

Today is a simple day. Guitar lesson in the AM, pick up my cousin's husband for lunch then replace the carb and fuel lines on a Mantis Tiller for some tilling at my sisters beach home this afternoon. Not a bad day at all.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch People! Looking like we get a couple days break from the rain, so it must be yard work time! I need to trim a branch off my neighbors tree that's over the solar on the shed and greenhouse, and get it to the street since it's pickup week. Probably mow this afternoon when it dries off. Be good to get some work in, as it's been a week!

Got the Masterbuilt grill coming tomorrow, and the replacement fan shroud for the truck as well. Get the yard done, and I'm free to work on that stuff. Have to put the truck accessory wires and hardware back in place, as they were very disrupted during the AC fix (can't really blame him - much). Nothing serious - tested and everything still works. Gave her a shakedown cruise yesterday, and didn't need much AC with the weather, but when I did use it, all better now, and no other issues.

Memorial Day is our normal pool opening Ken. Sounds strange, but it's always been the same weekend as when we opened the pool at my parents house in Michigan all those years ago. When our kids were kids, no one got in before schools out anyway. And we like that water warm!

    Happy ThurFriday all~!

    Good morning all,

We dropped the land line nine years ago, I run my business (ran) out of my house and do a lot of international events so we went with satellite which is cheaper with no long distance charges and NO spam. Our cells need a booster up here so the satellite phone/WiFi/Internet gets us what we need and is a business right off (for now). I have to admit when we started with the satellite the internet speeds were challenging at times but over time that has been resolved and are better than friends down in the Springs during peak times. The only time we have any issues is if we have heavy snow - have to sweep the dish off or in very few cases during extreme thunder storms which does not matter much as we shut everything down anyway due to lightening strikes.

Beautiful 35 degree morning, going to cut down more trees today. Can't wait to get out and work a little. By the time we (dogs and I) got home yesterday from our vet appointment it was already storming so nothing outside could be done.

Enjoy the day and be safe,

Thanks for the heads up on Antenna Man Tom. I will definitely check him out.

The pool on our community opens on Memorial Day as well Kurt. People don't normally get in the water here until late June early July...too cold for the old bones.

Rumor has that the major networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX) are going to start charging to watch their channels. Deb told me that Chicago Fire on NBC (listed as 1 hour) was 38 minutes with 22 minutes of commercials. I hope they at least put out more entertaining commercials.

Good Morning Cool Old Dudes and the Coolest & Sweetest

Head for Monkey Mtn around noon. Have to finish packing a few things, but got rig ready yesterday. Feels good to be back in a groove this Summer after last year of uncertainty.
A few errands first: Haircut when they open at 8AM; back to house for final items and pups; drop little dog at son's house, she's hawk/eagle snack size, so cabin property is not a safe zone for her...can't imagine explaining to Kristi how her baby flew off in talons
Kristi is on work trip to Fairbanks 'til end of month, so it's just pups and me for a bit.

    9E60A603-A6B5-4E04-BCD4-433024A07E07.jpg
Reminds me of the weekly autovon calls during my remote tour in Turkey... horrible echo and 3 min time limits. The letters were much more enjoyable...think I still have a shoebox full on top shelf of my closet.

Best get on with it. Have a safe, healthy, and happy day all. :hattip:

If you have satellite (Dish or DirectTV) you are already paying for local channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX) and most cable providers already pay a fee. My question is how will they stop those using an antenna without paying a fee?

Goes to show the main stations are double dipping revenue while the subscription / streaming services offer commercial free shows. All the local stations are franchised now so we shall see how long they survive the changes as more and more streaming options will be offered - Disney and Discovery are not far away from going direct to streaming and dropping cable and satellite all together.

We lowered our Dish package and watch more Netflix, Prime and ROKU these days. More old shows, new series that are only offered on those platforms, ROKU gets our local channels even when Dish has been held hostage to increase their fees from the franchise to renew (happened twice this year so far ABC & FOX).

Just a matter of time before all TV watching becomes A-La-Carte

People nowdays are unable to communicate verbally. I always say "no text" in my Craigslist ads, but some will always text. I had one person give me an offer on my car, I told him to call to discuss, but he refused. I even asked if he had some sort of speech problem, to which I got no reply. I re-ran my ad, and guess who texts me? Passed him off as as scammer.

So, how was branch removal here at Heck's Half Acre? Well, remember, around here, it's a matter of scale compared to a lot of you!

Since I can't elevate properly, here's a before and after to see what went. ONE branch over the shed and encroaching on the greenhouse. If it was afternoon, you would see the solar and vent well shaded.

    20210520_102746.jpg
    20210520_132314.jpg

Same tools, just at a reduced scale!

Got to make that mess fit in the wagon! Two loads...

    20210520_122342.jpg
    20210520_130555.jpg

And dump it all on the sidewalk.

    20210520_133727.jpg

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:Just kidding! That's my neighbor across the street - lost that branch in one of the storms this week. This is REALLY my pile!

You can't see the branch, but this shot makes it easier to see the NOT branch.

All good, nothing broken, and the sun shines on the solar. Then I tripped on the garage door rope, hit the shelf and concrete, bruised my ribs, and mowed the yard.

Yeah, if I was a landlord that would weed out people I might not want as tenants. But selling a vehcle, all I really care about is that they have cash, and enough of it.

Good morning everyone! It's that thing the working people call Friday and then they get all excited about it. :D:rofl:

Heading out to help out with a fundraiser sporting clays shoot this morning. Might have a chance for some aroma therapy.

Lynn and I got our first swim of the year yesterday. The pool looks awesome...water temp was 80 so it was a bit chilly but still nice to get the season started this early. Out here in the boonies, pool clothing is rare. If you see something that offends you, you should probably call and let us know you are coming...or you're trespassing and deserve what you get.

We have Direct TV - no cable available - but still have a landline. I'm always tempted to drop the phone line but it also carries our DSL signal so the price difference is minimal and there's still no good option for internet than the DSL at this point. I've looked at satellite but the upload speeds are no better than my DSL and it is more expensive.

Our contractor got a start on re-working the greenhouse that was hit by the falling tree. He had some days this week - has another job next week and then back to us - so he was able to get the roof repairs done, get the new skylight in and begin tp put in the new windows. We put new double hung windows in the front but the other three sides will have 4 clear polycarbonate sheets that will be framed in. The shingles get delivered today so he'll get the roof complete and the last poly window in. We decided to re-roof the tractor garage that's next to the greenhouse, too, since we are going to re-skin it as well. At least we're making some progress. I'm waiting to do the demo on the tractor garage until the contractor is ready to re-skin it.
