Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

I have the Dakar leafs on my truck and they did push the wheel forward a bit. I noticed it right after installing, then confirmed the same reading on here. You can kinda tell in this pic...

 

It's interesting it is more noticeable on some trucks vs others, being the same year range and leaf pack. i would still argue that yours is still forward though @Nano909 but less noticeably than @FreshOldTaco for sure.

My truck is hard to use for comparison since it's on 35's and of course user error could have happened when chopping the fenders, but even with the axle pushed back 3/4" it feels like it is biased to the front.

Had a hard time finding a full stuff pic, but this shows that I'd likely be eating the body if they weren't pushed back.

I agree @Nano909's wheels do look slightly forward.

And you tackle some sick shit with your truck so you definitely need all the clearance!

 

Don’t know the brand but I was able to get a used matching one for the spare at Les Schwab, a local tire shop.

 

In what way will they not fit? I’ve found dozens that fit when I was looking before I ordered mine.

 

Looking at ordering the OME kit from Wheelers. I've got an extra cab with a soft top and load up about 100#'s of stuff daily, was thinking 881's and add a leaf? This a safe bet?

 

I was wondering same thing for my truck. I just got Wheelers progressive AAL in the mail today. Its 1.5". About to order 881s. Mine is dbl cab v6 4x4.

 

220+ lbs is what they list.

 

Finally got my big tires on. Running 275 70 18 on lexus gx460 rims

 

Got my OME kit installed today. Took me longer than I thought mainly due to wrestling everything by myself. I gained 4” in the rear and 2” in the front with Dakars and 881 coils with no AAL. Truck is currently sitting on 31x10.5x15 tires. Drove a couple of miles just to do a quick test and everything seemed good. The old stock stuff from 1999 had 195k miles so it was well worn out. After I drive it some I’ll come back and give some more thoughts. Here’s a before and after pic.

 

Looks good! a smidge high in the back but over time should settle.. but I like the stance, not a fan of too much lift, this looks good! You get any drive line vibes?

 

No vibes at all. I hauled some deer corn today and after I unloaded it seems the rear has settled quite a bit. I didn’t measure but I’d guess I’m within 1/2” of level now.

 

nice good to hear! I got some pretty ugly vibes at first but between shims, leafs settling and greasing often it’s gone done a lot. Might be time for u joints anyways however.

 

I was kind of expecting some vibes just based on how much lift I gained due to the worn out suspension I started with but so far so good. Took it up to 80 mph for a test and it is smooth at all speeds. I also suspected u-joints may be needed but all of mine are tight. I greased everything and now I’m hoping to drive it for a long time!

 

Quick bump stop question. I know I need extended bump stops to go with my newly installed rear Dakars (no AAL). I don’t do any serious off roading but I do use the truck to haul feed and supplies to my hunting areas with some rough terrain. What bump stops should I be looking at? Thanks in advance.

 

I ordered Wheeler's SuperBumps with my kit. Haven’t installed yet, but I know a few people who have been happy with them and they seems to be a common go-to option.

Losing the ARB bumper makes me want to swap out my 883 coils. They’re definitely too stiff at this point. The rear is still pretty good, for ride and for flex.

 

Got my OME lift put on a few weekends ago. Have the 883's in the front and the Dakars in the rear. Still waiting on the AAL, hasn't come in yet but may throw it on depending on what happens when I get my camper shell.
