Ah, ok. So yeah, probably need to do as @6 gearT444E has suggested for the ADD switch, even tho you aren't using it. My 4Runner is the V8 and never had ADD to start so I didn't have to worry about that part. I still have the 4WD ECU connected for some things, since VSC and TRAC are tied into it and I didn't want to take the time to figure out the wiring to remove it completely.

Something like that to keep it positioned while on the tranny jack would be awesome.

Does that have the wire in it around the rim? That should work great.

It feels pretty stiff around the edge, so it may have a wire in it. It did not say on the package.

We will find out tomorrow night when its applied

Plugging the ECU in will not do anything. What needs to happen is you have to either permanently ground the ADD signal to the skid control ECU to fake the system into thinking it's in 4wd or wire in a switch to toggle between "2wd/4wd" selection to the skid control ECU. The wetting voltage supplied to the skid control ECU comes from the 4wd ECU.

So if I'm understanding this correctly

    • take the male plug that used to plug into the add front actuator and look for pin 3
    • ground pin 3
    • that will give a ground to my ATRAC switch and when engaged
    • it will give a ground to what needs a ground for ATRAC to work
Please correct me if I'm wrong:)

that should work but even easier is to use the F13 connector at pin 26 behind the dash that used to plug into the 4wd ECU, ground that. I believe that will work but haven’t tried myself to confirm. There will be area behind the dash to land a wire to chassis. It’s the light green/black wire. If you ground it, skid control will think you’re always driving around in 4wd, so you could have option to add a toggle switch to allow the different traction modes to work like OEM. Personally I never used any of those anyhow, and my ATRAC hasn’t worked in a kit 8 years lol, having a front locker really negates the need for it.

just for reference, any traction mode that is referenced here for being applicable in 4x4 will be affected if you leave the truck as is with the ADD delete

    Thank you again.

You answered every single question me and my mechanic buddy had about this.

As soon as I engage 4hi, I push and hold the traction control buttons anyway to get it all disabled. I am so glad this all worked out. Now I dont have to push and hold that button, every time I restart the truck out on the trails.

I have now deleted everything I never used! It was all electronic garbage that gets in the way.

That's correct, you can turn off the traction still (which is able to be defeated in 2 or 4wd). If you add a toggle switch, it may be beneficial in that if truck does detect wheel slippage when in 4wd, it will not affect engine regulation (that is the other signal where ADD sends ground to the ECM). Personally, I think grounding it permanently is better and allows for all the functions such as TRAC and A-TRAC (if equipped) to be used if desired, and as far as the truck is concerned it thinks you're driving around in 4wd all the time. But if the desire to be able to switch in and out of all the traction modes is something that is wanted; you would still be able to use the "auto LSD" and engine regulated "TRAC" mode that is featured in the 2wd traction control functions. Again, to me all these electronics are non-sense but that's an argument for another day, just presenting folks with the options to do with what they please.

YEP! Guess I need the switch.

This is one of the reasons I was disabling all the stupid features. The engine regulation is not at all what I want. It pisses me off.

More progress this evening. Tomorrow night will be close to complete.

My buddy had a great idea, and made it happen tonight for holding down the dog dish. With out putting holes in it.

Got the sticks in and adjusted, that is where they will stay. Feels awesome to shift it.

The green bowl is going to be a shifter boot. We are going to poke some holes in the bottom to allow the sticks to come threw, and riv nuts will be used on each of those tabs that come off the ring. This will securely smoosh the bowl against the floor, and we can RTV it on the bottom as well.

I dont think we are going to use the black twin stick adapter thing I got, it was just purchased in case. It seems not needed right now. I got more things than I needed, I did not want to be held up by small things.
