90k is a lot of money for Ford pick up that isn't a heavily optioned DRW, but I'm sure the Lightning Platinum is more practical to more people than a dually.

Comparing the F150 Lightning to the Hummer EV, I would rather drive the Lightning isntead of a HEV. My choice would be the same, if both vehicles are ICE.

I think with any EV, the buyer has to be interested in the fact that the vehicle is powered by electricity.

I don't think the majority of vehicle buyers care how their vehicle is powered. What ever technology is available at the time someone buys a new vehicle, is fine for most buyers.

Yeh I am going to be patient and wait for Solid State BEV's. I think they will be worth the wait.

It was a failure of natural gas distribution the caused that problem.

Texas wasn't the only state hit with that weather. While there were a few rolling blackouts in OKC, it was only for about an hour and I think only lasted for like 2 hours and stopped after massive complaints (and only affected lower-income neighborhoods, go figure). My neighborhood was never affected. Bottom line being, this was 100% the fault of the Texas-specific NG organization. OK is part of a multi-state NG distribution org. Texas went "rugged individualism" and had to burn Grandma's favorite easy chair to keep warm.

Anyway, I'm glad we have even more experts chime in rehashing the same thing that's been posted every page for 40 pages.

Not gonna happen in the USA. Hybrid if anything which would be more torquey than a diesel anyway.

10 years ago I’d have agreed with you if it offered better mileage but that ship has sailed.

I'm still holding out hope, just for a little more towing, and living in Texas, my Tacoma struggled with 75-80 and hills. My Tundra doesn't struggle as bad, nut running 85 on loop around Austin it does a little, and fuel economy falls fast.

    Yes the stater still works.

I am interest in how BEV vehicles perform in those conditions. Could a BEV be used to plow snow and spread salt?

How reliable are the electronic components in those conditions?

I'm perplexed why people think the electronics to control and electric motor can't/won't be reliable. The electronics used today to control your ICE are way more complicated than what's needed for an electric motor. And for the most part they're really reliable.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
I saw the F-150 Lightning launch last night. Very impressive. I'm pretty good friends with someone in high places at Ford and she was live-streaming it.

I told her I'd strongly consider an electric Ranger (if that is available then) in 3 years when my Taco lease is up.....

I haven't seen any EV truck mfg say anything about snow plows. Maybe the Commercial Ford lightning will be able to do this. Time will tell. But you'd probably need extra 12v batteries installed to run the hydraulics.

Agreed. Outside of F-250 sized pickups and 18-wheelers, America will never embrace Diesel.

With Ev trucks a diesel can't compare to an electric motor. Range is the biggest issue. Ford has disappointed in this area.

The f150 lightning looks nice with a 43k base price. Cool features too like powering house when you have an outage. Platinum model is going to be 90k though

That ability for bidirectional usage is an expensive option and available now aftermarket. Plus the devices in your house will probably need to be LED lights and maybe a small fridge. Ford said 3 days you could run your house off this truck. I think thats no where near possible.

I don't know how an EV pickup is going to tow my 20' snowmobile trailer to Northern Maine in February. It's 470 miles one way and often 50 degrees below the freezing point of water when I go up there. They got a long ways to go before I'm a customer.
