Toyota doing some monitoring?

Bought a 2021 SR 2 months ago. 1400 miles no issues. I got a text from the dealer saying there is a maintenance light in their main system? Could be just bs to try and get me in or just the truck sending data to toyota?

The only mod that might trigger this is my N2 remote start but I still have no maintenance light on my dash.

 

I don't think that's the case, at least for SR trim. This might just be a time-based auto alert to get you to service the truck there.

You in Oklahoma? I mean, I suppose there could be Fowler Toyota dealerships elsewhere.

I never received anything like that, even when I had the Connected Services free trial. Not even a reminder of upcoming oil change.

 

I never setup the app or clicked agree to the Toyota connected services. Still, got a call from the dealer about my TSS sensor malfunction the day after i moved my truck in the driveway with the front grill disconnected. In those 30 sec it phoned home.

 

All dealers do this. We bought a used 2012 Mazda 3 not a the local dealer, but we were in there checking some of their used ones and I bought a part from there, I think. Since, they have been trying to predict the mileage / services.

It was the same from both Subaru dealers that serviced our 2014 Forester.

Just a thing to get some business. They ain't actively monitoring you unless you have the 2020+ with Connected Services.

 

That note from the dealer sounds like they’re fishing for your business. If you had a maintenance indication it would be on your man display in the maint section.

 

My dealer sent a formal email asking if I would kindly refrain from farting into the seats. Apparently the front driver's has reached its quota for the lease term.

 

I farted so much in mine the first year I had it that the dealer threatened to void my warranty.

Really happy with my 2018 technology. I’m not hooked in to that spy system as far as I know and I’d like to stay away from that shit as long as I can. (Maybe I can keep ‘er till I have to turn in my license or I suddenly loose all interest in temporal affairs.

 

Mine has connected services with the SOS button, just found it odd.

 

I should add that I also got an offer for Toyota to monitor my driving habits remotely to get me to switch my car insurance. No other hardware needed since the letter claimed I had the tech built in already.

So, there is some different fun there if you want to Opt Out of the Connected Services vehicle tracking. That is not likely where your email came from, but they are logging your driving habits. Check the Owner Manual or maybe the Head Unit / Navi manual for info there.
