The last time I had a locking gas cap the stupid gas thief tried but couldnt drill out the lock of the cap to open it so he drilled a hole in the side of my tank. Yeah! $9 protection for a $500 tank!

Seriously? you most have some thieves in your area that carry a drill taking the time and chance to get nailed doing this, or they have a score to settle with you. I've had simple vandalism on my road where other neighbors had moth balls, sugar, and who knows what put in their unlocked fuel tank's overnight as pranks. I was lucky to have a locking gas door on the old tundra that spared my truck. I assume once these bozo's found they couldn't get access to my gas tank they immediately left for the next neighbor that had an open one.

Some donkey stole 3/4 of my full tank in my driveway last night. I don’t see any hole in the tank. If a hole was drilled, wouldn’t it cause a loss of pressure and throw a code? Also learned Toyota does not make locking gas caps. Hurts even more now that gas is $3.87 a gallon.

For whatever its worth, I used the Stant cap linked in this thread (Amazon showed as currently unavailable !??!?) on my 2021 Pro AT. Got a CEL but it was a couple weeks and several cycles post install. So I figured it was something else but dealership told me today its the cap. So I'm back to square one.

I don't doubt it. Might be somthing on the bleeding edge of tolerance and/or I'm also at altitude which tends to exacerbate everything in life in different ways. I verified the codes and so running Stant full time is off the table. I might do as others have said on Amazon and just carry the Stant and deploy only when I am somewhere that warrants it. Stupid hassle for a truck that is 'top of the line' and I continue to poor money into LOL. But it is what it is.

Good thing no one asked you. OP went MIA. Surely you have something better to offer besides a reply to a comment from 4 years ago....

    An ounce of prevention!

A locking cap may cause a fuel thief to hit another vehicle and not yours.
