While I'm generally really excited to see more electric trucks and vehicles in general, I really wish there were more hydrogen fuel cell vehicles being developed. I really think HFC is a better fit for the way a lot of people use their vehicles and the way our infrastructure is setup. It also makes WAAAAY more sense for buses, semis, delivery trucks, etc. Hydrogen is the most plentiful element on earth, you don't have to mine for it (in questionably ethical ways), you can refuel it like a normal gas station experience (<5 minutes for the Mirai with 400 miles of travel), you don't have to carry a fuck ton of batteries, and you don't have to massively increase demand on our electrical grids.

Hopefully Toyota continues down the HFC path for more vehicles. Tesla has certainly captivated everyone with battery powered electric vehicles, but long term HFC is the way to go.

I really don’t like the Tesla douche attitude or the ceo Elon . I never liked their cars styling from the get go and admit the cyber truck is kinda ugly.

But..... I still have some reasoning left in my feeble mind and I actually hate to admit they are going to be very hard to beat . You might have to be daft or delusional to think these companies offer something similar at the price .

-350-500 miles range for 4x4 Tesla cyber ($49-69k)
-Full self driving ( not sure why anyone would think this is just some “neat little feature”. It’s like saying the first airplane was neat but we still got trains)
-Tesla’s charging network (open ur google maps now and see which EV charger is next to u )
-Tesla car insurance (available in CA and USA soon). You wanna switch on autopilot and pay 30 bucks a month for full coverage while the car spy’s on u and ur driving habits? I do for cheap insurance . You like explaining to ur insurance adjuster how it was not ur fault when you can simply show them with ur 8 spy cameras? Case closed , not ur fault , here’s your check .
-And they actually make all the dumb electric cars you see rolling around the roads (they do what they say and actually have factories and battery tech and suppliers set up)

Not just for Ford , but it’s probably gonna be few more years or a decade (if they even survive) before they are at the level
to provide cheaper , long range, good tech EVs that can be mass produced (not a few 1000s units a year).

I want a normal looking ev truck like that f150. But how dumb would I be to pay 70k for the 4x4 model with 300mi range when u can get a bullet proof 500 mile range truck that drives itself and cost 10k less than that.

You know you married the right one when she yells to you "hey honey - pop the frunk and throw me the TP, I need to drop a cybertruck":rofl::rofl:

Cybertruck might be really awesome and does have the range but it totally looks like a douchemobile.

Me: <Finds a stuck off-roader, hungry, thirsty and out of gas> I’d love to share my fuel but my super useful batwings, wedge and hood panels don’t fit your rig. Plus, I need them for my super shitty range or I won’t get home. Bet you’re glad I’m a super-virtuous asshole who chose hundreds of extra pounds of lithium so I can make weekend trips to the mall look aggro but also progressive. I sure am glad I have all these thousands of dollars worth of charging bullshit on my rig instead of a hundred bucks worth of jerry cans and fuel. Can I offer you a quinoa scone and the rest of my soy latte? Don’t worry, I only source my pompous snacks from companies with a low carbon footprint in Williamsburg.

Can't wait for the Frunk. Now I can have shopping cart dings on my front bumper as well as the sides from the superstars that will try and squeeze up front to frunk, just in case the acai fruit smells that day and can't cab ride. FML

The biggest reason I wouldn't buy an electric vehicle for now is the limited miles per charge and the amount of time it takes to completely recharge it. You basically chain yourself to a small area around home base - impossible to take them on a vacation without needing to plan it around charging. Electric vehicles are improving quickly but still not completely ready to make the jump to kill off gas vehicles, IMO.

That said, the new F150 lightning looks great - im interested to see how its received and how Toyota can iterate on battery tech before an electric Taco comes out. For now, happy slog around at 18mpg with a 3 minute refuel stop!

This, when the charge is as quick as a gas fill, then i'll be ready.

We can assume they will have faster charging as time goes on, at first with a premium cost. I also assume that Integrated solar charging will be in the roof and hood and windshield etc to help. Sounds pretty cool to me

With how far and fast the goalposts keep moving, they can't be EV powered, or else we would have passed them already while they were recharging.

One thing I haven't seen Ford mention is the warranty on the batteries and expected life span. I would have thought that would be a good point to mention at the launch....unless its not so good. Also the cost of replacing the batteries is another thing that I would want to know, since that is essentially telling you how long you can drive it and how much it is going to cost for a new engine. I am glad Ford built this, and not some space creature looking 100K thing like Tesla, this truck will spur competition. I would be in the market to have an EV in the family fleet and if it was a truck it would be so much better. I think an electric tacoma or tundra with toyota's know how would be solid. I think they could knock it outta the park.

I don't trust Ford reliability electric or gas, but I do like a lot of things about the lightning.

I’m not sure if you realize that the $100k thing like Tesla is actually cheaper than the F-150 fully spec’d and starts for just less than the base F-150.

Well Toyota better put it in gear and do it fast. They are not even in Fords rear view mirror. A lot of people have been waiting for this. Soon you will see big rebates and tax incentives from the Gov. And unlike Tesla's EV, Ford's truck looks like a truck, not like a Starship shuttlecraft. Almost evey modern vehicle has had early model year recalls, part of the business. Will it make someone sell their Tacoma?, maybe not, but with gas prices showing no signs of going down, they might just put a car cover on it.

But Tesla reliability is worse than Ford...People that own them love them, but they come with some less than desirable issues that are not cheap. I looked at a couple of teslas over the years.
