POWERTHIRST Tune by Downhill Dragon Tuning

With over 100 TX trucks loving this custom OV tune, and having been tested against some of the best tunes out there (won't mention any names), it's finally time to start my own thread!

POWERTHIRST has been built ground-up over the last 7 months, re-tuning my 2017 TRD Pro about twice a week, poking, prodding, adjusting, and is finally what I consider a finished and awesome product.

This thread is primarily for providing feedback, asking questions, setting up franchise opps for tuners to use this to expand their offerings, and general BS about tuning and offroading.

5/8/2021 - I'm currently looking for some people who know their trucks, have tried other tunes, log their data, and drive a shit ton, to test it out and give feedback. If that's you, Post here or PM me!

6/20/2021 - We've officially hit over 200 Tacomas running my tunes here in Texas!!! I'd been holding out as long as possible, but with the increase in credit costs, the price for in-person tuning officially goes up to $300 starting 7/1/2021! Price for a single license remains at $100. Price for PowerThirst Licensed Tuners also remains at $75/vehicle, capped at 20 vehicles, then free after that!

5/10/2022 - We're sitting at well over 300 Tacomas running the PowerThirst tune, and with the increases to credit and R&D costs, in-person tuning (here in TX) is $350. Individual licenses are only $150 per vehicle if you have your own equipment. Let me know if you need something custom!

 

Cautiously optimistic about this one, so I’ll be following along!

I’d be down to test it (04B04) but I’m currently waiting for the VF “Flash N’ Log” licensing to drop hopefully next week so I can flash again (OG Flash Kit owner). Currently only on 2.0 base but looking to spice it up. I’ll be trying some of the more popular/mainstream/whatever ya want to call them tunes that are available here and have been tried and tested for a while but I have no problem pitting them against each other once I can finally flash again. I got that itch man!

Moved back to iOS from Android and I just don’t get to flash things as often, so instead of flashing roms, why not my trucks ECU? Haha.

Best of luck to you sir! Have you been collaborating with other tuners around here? And have tunes built up for different gears, octanes, tire sizes etc? Just curious, the OP could perhaps use a little expanding on what yours offers that others do not or what the focus is of the tune. Sounds like performance above all else? Where as some are more focused on MPG, towing, etc.

 

So yes, I collaborated early on with @Mooseditty17 and @PapaRee, but have been just going off on my own the last 3 months or so. Head down, re-tuning and testing. Originally was going for performance, but switching to 5.29 gears was a BIG motivator to get MPGs back, and I've finally got it dialed for a beautiful balance. I know some of the maps I did for low-end torque and shift points are unique, and that's where POWERTHIRST really shines.

Tune is set up for Reg or Prem (but focus on regular since premium is $$ AF here in TX for some reason), and ALL ECUs including the MTs. Can do all the normal tweaks: gears, tires, AGM, GearLock, etc...

The plan is to offer License the tune for tuners who want to offer it to customers. Simple pricing strategy: You charge $300 for the tune, you keep $200 of that, send the other $100 to me for the use.

In a sense, yes. This would be a replacement (and would over-write) either the stock maps or OVTune or whatever tune you have on the truck at the moment.

If I were going to do a tune, it would be this one based on the name alone. The college YouTube nostalgia is real.

 

I don’t think you understood my sarcasm. I was trolling because under your vehicle into you say your Tacoma is OVTuned. I’m thinking you should change that for starters

 

The dyno appt is getting set up, to compare: stock vs OVTune2.0 vs KDMAX 6.0 vs POWERTHIRST 2.0. I am def looking forward to posting the logs.

So how would the tuning file(s) access work? If it's $300 for licensing the tune, $200 for the "tuner" and $100 for the creator (you), how will the tunes be provisioned?

 

Since there's currently no way to 'vin lock' tunes, and that sounds like a huge PITA, getting to know the people licensing the tune and trusting them to be honest when they flash tacos seems like the clear solution. plus, there will always be people needing something weird ass combinations, like stock gears and 37s, where I'd have to send a new file, so tuners would just let me know what they need as we go.

Why are you tuning 04b12? Should definitely update to 04b14..

 

Chris from that review got tuned back on 3/28/2021 at my first tuning event in Houston. At that point, I hadn't ported my tune to any of the MTs, and there was a basically a line out the door, so I had to port it to his ECU asap while he waited. Wasn't the optimal situation, so I just ported it to the ECU calibration he had in a pinch. I've since ported PowerThirst to 04B14, and I'm actually hoping Chris can show up to the Houston event this Sunday to get the newest update!

 

Gotcha. Just making sure you aren’t wasting time on old ecus updating is definitely worthwhile on the MT
