I’ve had a free line from TMo in since day one. Coverage is comparable to any phone I’ve had.

If you aren't data hungry it's great. If you use a lot of data I would go with another carrier.

Also, fi really shines when you have one of their approved devices. Not all devices support their carrier switching.

Thank you both. Just curious, where did either of you mount the antenna? Im considering just leaving it inside the dash and hoping it'll be good enough.

I just left mine in the dash on top of the radio. Signal is just fine.

I use about 13gb, my wife maybe 4gb. But since I tether my truck to my phone I eat up a good amount.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but has anyone had issues with their fob not working correctly after installing a joying unit? My fob sometimes doesn't want to work and I just have to mash the button over and over to get the truck to unlock. This only started happening after I installed the new head unit.

Also, my truck doesn't unlock when I shift to park and turn it off. With the factory head unit, all the doors would unlock after turning off the truck and getting out. Now I have to manually press the unlock button.

Im having similar issues with my fob not working correctly. I came across this particular thread but haven't tried it yet: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-head-unit-and-key-fob-lock-related.577689/

As for the door, I believe that's a setting you would need to enable.

So for the key fob issue, this may be weird, but this is how I see it causing the issue.

The key fob antenna is in the back near the 3rd brake light, now the joying radio just goes "to sleep" when you turn it off. There is a chance that it still looping power through the factory antenna causing interference with the key fob. I think the best way to test this theory is by unplugging the antenna from the radio and seeing if your fob works again.

Mine doesnt seem to be a issue anymore, though it was at one point.

There are some settings in the system for turning on power to antenna, mine is turned off, and I dont have the issue anymore. But I never really tracked the issue or diagnosed it.

I was having FOB issues and stopped into a dealership and spoke to one of their techs. They had me use the valet key thing ~ that small key that pops out of the fob, to lock the drivers door. Then use the fob to unlock. I haven't had an issue since. I don't know why, didn't ask, didn't care. But the result has been no issue at all with the fob anymore. YMMV. Hopefully it resolves your issues.

I think that might be accurate with the antenna. When I forgot to plug in the antenna, there were no issues. It wasnt until I plugged the antenna where the key fob started giving me issues. The antenna power settings was already off for me, plus also disabled sleep mode but unfortunately the issue persisted. Tried my other key fob and same issue there too. I think I'll unplug the antenna once I get my SIM card.

Also tried the valet key thing, but unfortunately that didn't work for me.

So strange. I'll try unplugging the antenna and see what happens. I don't ever use the fm/am radio so I don't need it connected.

I'm really finding all the issues with this thing...

I'm pretty sure this head unit is deleting all my google contacts. I have lost all my google contacts twice now(contacts.google.com), and this only started happening after I installed this joying head unit. Think I'm just going to remove my google account from it and see if it ever happens again.

EDIT: Yep, just found proof. This head unit 100% is the thing deleting my google contacts.

Oh yeah, it deletes all your contacts for some reason. You can recover them on a web browser.

just got my truck a few weeks ago and i have been looking at this thread extensively for the past couple days so i figured i’d sign up and let you know of my results. i just wanted to reach out and say thank you to each and every one of you guys for the wealth of information. i got the head unit linked below (that’s it nothing else no mounting brackets or extra wiring) and all setup in my truck with all the information you guys listed in this thread and it all worked out great. i used apple carplay all the time in my last car so that’s why i really wanted something like this. so far everything is working out great. other then the loss of music and nav screens i haven’t really noticed any other loss of functionality

    thanks again everyone!

Bought and installed one of these a few months back and everything was great up until yesterday. My backup camera no longer show up when I go into reverse. When I shift in and out of reverse the screen blinks as if it is switching from the camera back the main screen but there is no video signal. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Can't remember if I posted about this or not, but I have an issue where plugging a phone into the head unit's USB causes it to crash and reboot. It will continue to boot loop until the phone is unplugged. I tried moving the cable to the other USB port, still does it. I tried my GF's phone which is an iPhone, still does it. This means I can't use android auto.

Joying sent me an update to install, which I did and it did not fix the issue.

I've also had the head unit just randomly crash and reboot itself. Not sure if that was due to heat or something else.
