What are the Pros cons between Elite Haltech Stand alone and Fic6 piggy back Supercharger

    For what it’s worth, AEM no longer manufactures the FIC 6. I bought a Boomslang harness a long time ago and only got to buying the FIC 6 now, which had to be done used on eBay since its discontinued. They’re hard to find now, the ones that are for sale are kinda pricey. I paid original MSRP for my used computer.

    I’m probably going to go with the haltech 2000 with the plug and play harness.

    The methonal setup works ok but there are LOTS OF GAPS missing.
    There are NO true perfect tunes with the supercharger if you use the OEM ECU.
    Just bandaids.
    I’m going a different direction

    The FIC works fine for me just because I don’t need all the bells and whistles of the Haltech, especially for the price they’re asking for it. As long as I can fix my fuel and timing, I’m happy.

    I paid around msrp too. I think it got discontinued because of the EPA? Can’t remember what their name is but go read the rpm act, do what you will. I think you can safely run the stock engine to its limits with the fic6 and methanol as ways to tune and run it right. With a stand-alone, you probably get 20-40 more hp but that’s around 400whp, really on a knifes edge. You might get a little bit more hp with the haltech, but you might lose some of the daily drivability. Middle throttle tends to not be as good on stand alone because less time is spent on it

    I’m going to pull the trigger on this in a week or two, I’m very interested in seeing the results and I’m always running Dyno numbers on the treadmill so I will have real results differences.
    400 hp is more of a turbo rear wheel number tho,
    I’m at 280 hp 305 torque at 11 pounds of boost on the Dyno at 5200 feet.
    At 13 pounds of boost when Im at 4200 feet I’m at 305 hp 330 torque.
    Not sure what to expect for more power but will be great to have a perfect AFR numbers all the time, better timing numbers, no open loop close loop cycles, no MAF to deal with, will replace the restricted 2.75” MAF tube section with a 3” - 3.25 or replace the entire intake tube section with a 3.25”. Not sure what size to go with yet

    13 pounds is a 2.0” or 1.9” pulley? You can do a larger maf with a voltage skew on the fic6. I didn’t know about that one for a while. Not sure if our intake is a restriction at all, I think a 2.5” intake will flow enough for 350 Crk hp and 3” will flow for 450 crank

    yes 400 who is definitely a turbo, just using it because the sc can’t get to the limits of the block

    Yes, they are going after tuning shops and ECU/handheld tuner hardware manufacturers pretty aggressively for allowing vehicles to run with altered emissions hardware (cat/EGR deleted).

    Sure, without getting into it too much they don't care. Their stance is that if it came with certain emissions equipment it is not to be altered regardless of use off road or on the track.

    That also applies to off-highway vehicles like tractors that are sold with emissions controls.

    Good to know, yes my KN intake tube is 3” and the MAF sensor housing is 2.5-2.75 or something,
    So thats what I mean as far as restriction, actually a smaller dimension compared to the KN tube I have.
    1995-1998 have a restrictive type bullet MAF, BUT I did the Volvo mod which eliminates that bullet design and blockage but this mod only works on 1997+1998 models because of the newer ECU for that period

    Good to know you got rid of the restrictive one. Though for a stand alone, the MAP setup might be more accurate and better. less prone to problems with vacuum leaks

    Probably so and the haltech uses its own 02 sensor, 2000 haltech model will still use the OBII as functional where the 750 model it doesn’t

    300hp is close to max with the supercharger,
    I’m at 305 hp with 13 pounds of boost on a stock ECU and methonal
    It would be nice if I can get 25 more with the haltech,
    I will report back in a few months since there is a back order of 6 weeks

    From what I understand the 750 model is plain Jane so no,

    The 2000 model that I’m getting is tied into the stock ECU so my scanguage will work.
    So possibly it will with the 2000 model.
    My truck is a 1997, so I don’t have that as an issue
