it will pick up any phone, some ODB readers but it does not pick up all. I was trying to run my switch pro, solar unit, and a few others that have BT. It would have been great to see them on the HU but other BT units don't work but never had any issues with phones, tablets etc.

Shoot, I was hoping to connect it to a battery monitoring system for a dual battery setup, but it seems doubtful it woul even work due to BT limitations. Anybody doing this?

I'm heavily considering this head unit for the wireless carplay and android OS but had some questions:
    1) My current Alpine ilx-w650 has wired carplay and a button for siri which I use a lot for changing music and texting/calling. Does this head unit have something similar/the ability to add it?
    2) My truck is an 07 AC no steering wheel controls, backup camera, jbl audio or any of that stuff. So, what problems/additional products am I going to have to address when installing this? I have all my oem stuff still and the kit that came w/ the alpine so if I have to repurpose things I can. I read the entire thread and honestly got confused on which problems are for whatever options.
    3) I installed the alpine myself and did a really shitty job and it's an absolute rats nest behind the HU. For the wiring, will I have to do a bunch of connections again or is it as simple as plugging in a few harnesses. I don't know if I even want to bother with the install if I have to do the wiring again and might just let a shop deal with it and get it done properly.

    1. If you can get it to work you can program a button for carplay. I have had trouble myself but supposed to be able to do it. it worked at first when I had the wrong connector but with the canbus personally have had a hard time. i gave up. But you can always have it enabled on your phone.
    2. Just tell them when you buy it what you have. You wont need the can bus since you don't have any camera or other features. They give you the harness you need to connect. Pretty easy.
    3. its plug and play with factory harness if you did not cut it all off.

Install is super easy. It comes with the surround and since you have an older all you would need to do it swap over the hazard deal and good to go. I pull mine out all the time. I never bothered to add the size support or even bolt the bottom and never had issue wheeling or anything.

Sweet! Thanks for the help, will probably order it as soon as I find a dumb reason to justify spending the money. One last thing, is Amazon the best place to order it from or is it cheaper on ebay or another site?

They are all pretty similar if you buy direct from Dasaita. You can sometimes find some deals. The more costly ones are generally the PX6 and more RAM. You can get the same "look" with the older processor and RAM etc. Also usually adding wireless carplay is extra. There may be a newer version when I was reading the site but not sure if it is in the 9" or only in the 10" models. I ordered mine via Aliexpress, some do Ebay, some do Amazon but they generally all come from the same place/person/company.

I've got a 2014, and all of the units I have found, including the link of yours skips 2014. Shows its good to go for every other year. Anyone have any experience with these units for 2014's?

Just bought that one (through Amazon) for my 2014 TRD OR. Going to try to install it in the next few days here, but first I'm trying to figure out how to back up the ROM so I can install a custom one and try it out.

This is the unit I picked up. It actually shipped pretty quick all things considered...

I'll post some pictures of the install as I make progress! This evening I just spent booting up the unit on the bench, rooting it, and changing out the default interface with Nova Launcher. Still need to install some icon packs and make it look better, but its already miles better than what it was haha.

Attached some pics of it on my messy workbench.

Did a bit more testing with the head unit today, got it wired up in the car just to see how plug-and-play it was. Everything pretty much worked out of the box with this extra adapter they sell. It did come with an external GPS antenna, but I decided to buy these two (per the earlier posts in this thread) adapters to make the GPS antenna work. I also bought this adapter for the USB and I intend to make the USB in the front the Carplay/Android Auto connection.

The only exception is the microphone; after going through the wiring diagrams from TIS techinfo, its pretty clear that that's the one thing they left out of the harness. They did, however, supply an external mic. My next plan is to cut the connector off and strip the ends so that I can add it to the harness. Thankfully, since I ordered the fancy Canbus harness alongside the one the unit came with, I have some extra wires and connector pins that I can drop in. The only question is how to supply the 5V necessary to power the microphone module... I put in an order for this to try and cover my bases, but I might be able to find a usable 5V line somewhere... I'll have to hunt. I'm getting most of my information for the mic install from this post.

I'll post some pictures of the harness modification when I get to it, as well as putting the GPS adapter together and the final install. Should be done sometime this weekend (I hope!). I also 3D printed some RCA jack caps to keep the extra jacks from the harnessing all nice and contained so they don't short on anything. I can post the files for those as well if anyone is interested. If I get a chance, I may even try out the stock GPS antenna vs the one that came in the kit, to see which one performs better. Not sure how I'll test performance, but could be an interesting experiment.

Very nice. Regarding the mic, your not interested in just using the intergraded one in the HU? I've tried both and I can say I strongly favor the intergraded one.

A few questions: I've read this entire thread and the entire Joying thread and I'm still undecided. Is one better than the other?

Also, can anybody compare sound quality between this/Joying vs something like Pioneer or Kenwood? All the video reviews I see are all "look what it can do" but none are actually focused on sound quality.

Does the Daisata not come with a harness that's plug and play?

How did you try the stock one, and what was wrong with it? Did you power it with an external 5V and everything? I sorta just assumed the little one on the head unit would sound like garbage and that the stock one would be better, but I haven't actually tried it yet. Usually those pinhole microphones are pretty trash, but I could be wrong I suppose, especially if Toyota didn't put much effort into the stock mic. I do like it's location though.

Sounded pretty good without an external amplifier in my car! Not audiophile grade or anything, but bass sounded full and the tonal quality of vocals was very good. If you really care about quality audio, I think you'd want an external amplifier anyway as they tend to blow everything else out of the water. If you're not an audiophile though, I doubt you would notice a huge difference one way or the other. Sure the amp would be better, but a head unit like this alone will still get good sound.

The Dasaita comes with a standard harness that gives you speakers, illumination wire, amp and antenna wires, and plenty of audio and video inputs, though not plug and play for those. You also get plug and play two wires for the steering wheel controls, but unfortunately it only has two inputs and the tacoma has 3 output wires for steering wheel controls. This means that some of the buttons won't work plug and play. If you get the upgraded harness they sell which comes with a CANBUS module, you get all of the steering wheel controls, rear camera input, and aux port input all plug and play. The upgraded harness is only missing the stock microphone
