I had the fumoto valve on my last Jeep Liberty CRD for over 10 years with not a single issue.
I put it on because of that engines aluminum pan and the drain plugs and threads were know to be easy to strip out. I even went off road with it.

Still not sure I'm going to get one on the Tacoma. It's got a steel pan and a regular drain bolt you don't need to use the same extra caution with as the Jeep. It does seem to make it a little easier to change the oil.

A small sliver of light in this gray event. OP now has a little more rust protection underside.

Thanks. I think I am using the fiber washer. I'll have to take it off and take a look. Hadn't considered that as a potential leakage point

Because a fumoto Valve on both allows me to use a tube for each drainage spot.

I never even considered that as a possibility. Good luck stopping the leak.

Heh I appreciate it, but I'm waiting on parts. I ordered a new metal housing and a magnetic drain plug (figured I might as well upgrade), I'll be changing the oil after they get here around Mon/tue. Til then, I'll just keep giving it a quart here and there and checking the engine oil after each trip. Not gonna travel much this weekend, needless to say. At least it doesn't leak unless it's running. Otherwise I'd be in real trouble. It's my DD.

I can't use the original metal housing because the threads for the fumoto had to be drilled & tapped. So it's not compatible anymore. And I chucked that plastic housing...I don't want to put another one of those on...

So can we get a Title change? Because in the 20+ years of using Fumotos I've never seen a problem that has made me want to take it off..

I feel like you’re messing with us OP.

Agreed. Bad press for a product being used for a purpose not intended.

Go get yourself the likes of an RCI skid plate then come back and say that same thing. Either you unbolt a 50+ pound skid every time, or you spill oil everywhere trying to undo the drain plug through a tiny hole.

On a non-armored tacoma, I agree with you.

I like NOT having to use an oil drain pan. Stick a length of tubing onto the nipple, stick the other end into an empty 5L oil jug, crack the valve, then screw the cap on and drop off at the recycling depot. Zero mess. That’s worth it for me.

This is what you need for the filter. https://www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools...gid=pla-913388709492&ref=&adgrpid=92859401246

And I second the comment on getting a RCI skid. That is what I have and it's way less messy with the fumoto valve on the pan and well protected.

I run a stock toyota drain plug. I figured I don't need to add a problem to add to a solution that does not exist.

I put a gasket around the hole in my skid. That way any spill will generally be contained within the gasket.

I have been using this Amazon.com: Oil Filter Drain Hose Tool Oil Filter Release Hose,Fit for 2.5L-5.7L Engine with Cartridge Oil Filter Caps: Automotive for a year now, so I can have a tube from the filter housing. I also attach a tube to the Fumoto I have in the oil pain. Then both feed the drain pain at the same time. The set up works great.
