I asked about a Hobart 140 MIG 115V welder and you guys gave me the thumbs up for car/truck stuff; the 40A dedicated circuit will easily handle it too as the most it'll pull is 20A.

Follow up question is, do you ever find a need to use TIG? If so, at what point when talking about cars/trucks?

you probably won't need to tig anything unless you get a wild urge to build race parts out of aluminum.

Even stainless can be done with MIG or stick.

40amp will be awesome for a 110v compressor and saw

Yes, but I doubt you will need it yourself. It's nice to have a multiprocess machine but honestly I don't use it much for anything but aluminum and exhaust/intake piping.

I didn't even think about other tools for the circuit; just went with the option so I can have a welder in the garage.

Ok; I did see Hobart's multiprocess and it runs more than double.

No justifying the purchase then really by the sound of it.

well... if you're welding at a minimum you're gonna be running grinders and eventually work your way up to big saws:D

I'll mig for aluminized or mild, but stainless and titanium have to stay that way to avoid oxidation and weird cracking from heat cycling.

Probably but that's from your welding skill not the material :luvya:

No, stuff that far downstream on a truck I don't care about, but I don't only work on trucks haha.

School I'll be going to does MIG and TIG, and will touch on steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, so I'll learn about all that stuff later.

At this moment it's just foreign.

Being me, I'll end up nerding out like a mother fucker....and that's dangerous *thinks back about other hobbies* :anonymous:

It's cool shit. Hopefully they go over fitting and heat cycling, that's some of the most annoying shit when you're starting out. Wondering why your shit came out crooked when you're sure you had it clamped and measured right.

Yeah I saw that in another thread as well...mentioned how compact it is.

I prefer the Hobart I mentioned as with anything else such as guns, etc., nut up and pay now versus wasting money on something that has limitations.

I'll mention it here in the thread once it starts.

They've got big ass Lincoln and Miller welders that I saw when I toured the school.
