At the risk of dating myself, I remember when Nvidia first became known after the release of the Riva TNT. Seeing what they have grown to from those days is something, to be sure.

Jen Hsun Huang has always been an impressive business leader.

Busy working and watching NVDA go VROOOOOMM out of the corner of my eye. I still haven't regained all my losses YTD but if NVDA keeps it up after earnings it should net me some profit.

@GarlicFarts I believe it was you, you have some mutual fund you’ve been satisfied with ticker was something like $V__ . I’m doing some mutual fund research for stuff to put some summer earnings into.

If it wasn’t you I apologize but it’s probably 75 pages back by now.

SPY & VOO are S&P 500 ETF’s. VOO has lower costs

    Really?

There's only so much to say. I'm a VTSAX man myself, but close enough. Anyway, it's autopilot. You just buy it then sit there for 40+ years while it earns money. What is there to discuss?

Thanks. There's a time and a place for everything, and right now my portfolio consists of AAPL, GME (and some other meme gambles), + our individual long holds like PLTR CTXR LIACF. I've Got ARKK and ARKF too but those haven't done too hot since I hit the purchase button.

My ARKK holding is red at the moment, but that's a long term play. Disruption-based strategies are always insanely volatile.

I’m just messing with him, but if you do a search VTI by member name @GarlicFarts you’ll get a few hits :D

Is there any big difference between having a mutual fund vs etf? Holdings are so similar and as far as I can tell management strategies are next to identical. Is there some tax regulation or something that makes a difference between the two?

Mutual fund usually has a minimum like $3000. ETF’s minimums usually are the cost of one share. Also with an ETF you can state the strike price. With a mutual fund the price is what ever it cleared at the end of business.

EDIT: Also mutual funds usually have trade restrictions. Like one sell every 30 or 90 days. Read the prospects.

Yes, there are a few tax differences, with ETFs usually being more tax efficient but not always (and not ever, in Vanguard's case - see here: https://www.investopedia.com/how-vanguard-patented-a-system-to-avoid-taxes-in-mutual-funds-4686985).

ETFs may only be traded during open market, mutual funds trade and settle after close at closing price.

Mutual funds allow for partial shares, ETFs do not.

There are more, these are the big ones.
