I’m picking up a drum to drum E-locker axle assembly in the next couple weeks and need to decide how to wire it. Is there any down side to a stand alone harness or upside to wiring it like the factory did?
I read all the threads I could find on this topic but didn’t see this question asked.

I don't have the locker so I'm not totally familiar with it's operation. But usually the OE system will limit you on how you can use the locker. Running it on a separate switch will allow a wider range of use and more freedom to do more damage.

direct is WAY easier. You need the ECU to do it the "factory" way.

You could probably make your own harness for cheaper than the 12voltguy one. The hardest part is the wire routing, and you have to do that no matter how much you spend on the harness...

Ya, direct is the way I’m leaning and the only thing that concerns me is inadvertently hitting the locker switch while flying down the freeway. Probably an unwarranted concern but stranger things have happened. I would do the gray wire mod if I went factory and not sure if that takes away the engagement speed safety feature anyway.

    Bam!
That’s what I need, can’t have the cool lighted rocker switch but I like the safety of the covered toggle.
Anyone know if all the gauge clusters are equipped with the “locker engaged” warning lamp?

I don't have a locker in my truck, but I'm pretty sure the OE locker switch is flush, and would be difficult to hit accidentally.

Another option, if you want an OE look, is an 80-series Land Cruiser locker switch. I've seen pictures of them mounted in the clock blank and it looks really clean.

There are two versions of the switch: One for dual lockers and one for rear only.

It doesn't sound like it's a concern for you, but it's worth noting that with the dual-locker switch, you must engage the rear before engaging the front. There's no option to lock front-only, which some people want to be able to do.

Thats the way to go. I have a f and r locker switch. Forgot the 100 series had a RR only. Dunno why you'd only want to have a front locker only. But a little acetone and a silver sharpy fixes that problem :p
