We crewed a hot air balloon flight this morning. On the way out, the 30 foot pine midway down the drive had been looking like it was leaning a bit. It's now leaned. Luckily it fell at an angle where the top just touched the edge of the driveway.

Kinzua was a sight. Allegheny NF was so-so. I had been wanting to go for a long time, and glad I did, but I much prefer Bald Eagle SF. The more I do this, the less I like national forests and the more I like State operations.

Good morning fellow Pennsyltuckyvanians!!! Quiet day for me yesterday - washed the truck and didn't do much else. Today, I might even do less. :D Tomorrow is grass cutting day so I think I'll just enjoy the pool for today.

    Be safe out there!

i swear I’m like a bad luck charm for trout. Went out yesterday for several hours just past the railroad tunnel in the catch and release area of Penn’s. Double nymph’d stonefly larvae and adult and only got a stupid chub. Tried a dry sulfur for a bit since I saw a few rises but, nothing.

Noticed about 15 other fishermen and saw no one catch anything.

Oh well, like my daughter said “one fish is better than no fish”

I may try white deer creek later today.

Oh, also figured I’d comment on the driveable trails in Bald Eagle, so far. I believed I’ve done most of the ones of length except negro hollow, so far.

With the lack of rain, the trails have been very dry. One small pool and the rest tiny barely muddy puddles.

More importantly though, I would venture to say that Henstep is basically impassible unless you REALLY don’t care about your paint. The normal brush is fine and just lightly drags the sides, but the major problem is that there are large (1/2”-1”) sharp dead lower pine branches right as fender/hood/roof height allllll along it.

I started the trail at 6:30 last night, and got about 1/2 mile in an hour from having to hop out every 30 yards to clear dead branches smack in the way. I finally gave up when I got mosquitos in my eye, ear and nose at the same time when struggling with my 40th branch. Did an Austin Powers style 20 point turn to bail and head back out.

For the next person who attempts it, the first half mile is really nice :)

    Edit: Fixed my sideways pics!

I'm one of those that doesn't care about paint.

White deer creek most popular area is probably right by the i80 ramp.

Got my second dose of Moderna vaccine Friday after work. Spent my whole weekend feeling like crap. Fever then chills, headache near constant. This sucks, I think my reactions have been worse than Covid was for me.
