I took like two weeks off feeling like shit and sleeping bad. Bout a week ago decided to go to the gym hungover having not eaten anything and still pulled 675 for funsies lol then have only squatted once since.

Cutting and not having any real strength goals to aim for is lameeeeee.

Did a HM trail race with my hubby, bestfriend, and his hubby.

We danced with dirt, mud, water, snakes, and were viciously attacked and dive bombed by horseflys for 4 miles.

Had a blast. River crossing was .5 mile from the finish, I just face planted in it for a moment.

Only 1500ft of vertical gain, just enough to keep it interesting but not spoil the fun.

The last aid station had shots of Jack, Jim, and Fireball.

@ThunderCookies keeps passing me in these races. Some dude in a dirty blonde man bun always seems to fly by me at some point.

I see your 50K goal there. I run only up to HMs. My last was 2019 due to covid cancellations. I managed a 1:47. I am in the 60-64 yr old grp. I appreciate the time commitment you must put in to make the longer runs. I don't have the mental stamina to do that much training. I worry about my old body too. :deadhorse:

Just wanted to make sure you saw the story today about the 21 who died in China in the ultra? Weather changed on them. You can never be too careful with altitude, no matter the time of year.

Yesterday, walking around Chicago, I walked 10 miles lol. Not sure I've walked 10 miles all year...

Basically crossfit or a marathon runner qualified right?

I really enjoy it so its fun for me to put in the time out there. This was my longest run since my last ultra in Oct so its not like I put in the heavy mileage year round.
Road running to me sucks, I dont like running fast. Like this HM was done in 3:03. It was laid back and fun.

It does not change my mind about ultras. Bad weather happens and unfortunate things happen. People die driving cars, hiking, climbing, camping due to the same weather conditions. But we aren’t discouraged from those activities.

I’m going to be in the rockies summiting 14ers this next week. I could get struck by lightning and die, or get caught up in an a avalanche. I take steps to prevent problems, be aware, and someone will always know my itinerary and where I am.

All things in life come with risk. I don’t see ultra running as an unhealthy risk.

I remember years back when I was in London, I walked SO much. We were either on the tube or walking. It got exhausting going places but at the same time...I enjoyed it. I realized how lazy I had become and decided that I would try to rely less on my auto to get places. That only lasted a little while lol

    Made a big decision today.

I was tired of being jealous of you brahs with hands on manual labor jobs, so I made me a career change.

Lets see how much I can keep up training for trail races, lift, and be on my feet 60 hours a week :)

Exciting! Are you going to school or learning on the job? Either way, I will admit to considering that career change as well. I really liked home brewing other than having too much beer to drink at the end lol...I was way more into the making of beer than drinking it all.

On the job training. No more school for me.

Because of my lack of time with both jobs I had zero time for home brewing. I was looking at dropping big money for fermentation chambers and a Spike brewing system with pumps just so I’d be able to home brew in less time.

This opportunity came up and I figured I’d just go straight for the big boy equipment :)

I will also get to work on the canning lines as well which should be a lot of fun.

That’s cool you changed careers. I hope you enjoy the new job. Remember not to drink too much :D
I’ve been feeling like I need to change things up myself but, when you have mouths to feed and need good benefits...sometimes making a change it’s easy.

    Thank you guys :)

I’m pretty excited about the move and hope it gets me one step closer to my dream.

Even if it makes ultra training harder...
