Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

it’s only going to get worse my friend. Since my career is in international shipping, I can make a long winded post explaining why, but I can tell you that global supply chain is completely and totally f’d and it’s not going to get any better as we are entering peak season early this year to keep up with demand.

 

I work in construction management and we are seeing / hearing the same stuff. The project I am on now has been hit by procurement and shipping delays so severe that we are actually closing the job site for two months because we have literally run out of work to do.

A lot of suppliers are already communicating that price increases and lead times will continue to increase through 2022. Even land transportation from Mexico is running super long. We had a shipment of lighting that was a days drive away take three weeks to arrive on site. Seems like the common thought is that it could take until 2023 to normalize.

 

Gotta protect that investment!

 

When am I getting mine I mean intake and inner fenders. I got a shitbox/crawler hauler to protect to.

 

I need some advice on wheel math. My goal is to keep the same or similar track width with the +2.25" kit as what I have now.
Current set-up- 35x12.5x16" on 16x8" -10 offset plus 0.75" spacers
Wanting to jump to 37x12.5x17" and remove the spacer. Looking at 0 offset, the only positive offset I see are some +5 and +15 TRD ripoffs on eBay. Not sure how great those are, but limited options for aftermarket wheels with positive offset. I don't want to run into the spindle either of course.
Am I correct in assuming that 0 offset 17x8" wheels with the +2.25" kit would be 1.11" wider per side than my current set up?

Yeah those would put you right where you need to be. You might be able to get away with the +5 wheels but that'd be pushing it. Look at the tire specs 37x12.5r17 "safe rim mounting" is an 8.5" wheel min. So going that narrow of a wheel some shops may not want to mount them for you if they pay attention. I'd be more concerned with stretched vs too narrow. You'll actually only be about 2" wider than you are currently if you measure outside of tire to outside of tire. So if you get 1.5" spacers for the rear you'll look pretty square.

 

They didn’t mind mounting the 35’s on 8” wheels, do you think it’s worth trying to find a wider rim for a 37? Really only 0.5” more sidewall on a 17” rim.

 

Then I wouldn't worry about it.

Made some fender liners out of a 4x8 sheet of FRP. Seam seal and undercoat and looks pretty decent from 5ft. Since JD doesn't make 3rd gen inner fenders yet. Lol

This is a far as I got today. Ran into some issues that needed attention right away. Thankfully I have a friends lathe in my garage and was able to make quick work of it. Found some other issues during cycling that needed to be addressed and took care of those too. Some of these issues may be specific to my truck. But who knows. Harry told me that I didnt need the spacers on the lower spindle mount....turns out I needed to put 1 spacer (washer) in there because the uniball cup was hitting the bottom of the spindle about an inch before full stuff. One other issue I ran into is the UCA was hitting my coil over bucket preventing it from getting to full droop....nothing a flap wheel couldn't take care of (pic below) Just trying to get this thing to be a roller since my welder buddy was busy this weekend. Next weekend should be able to weld in the bump cans and limit straps. Most of these issues may be specific to my truck. Its been beat on pretty hard in the last 8 years. But its a good reminder to all that you need to have the ability to adapt and make things work for your specific setup...there are always issues that pop that fabricators can't forsee.

Maybe read the instructions first next time and you would know about needing to trim the coil bucket

 

I didn't get any instructions....and if I did I still probably would have not read them. Are they on the website?

 

I didn’t know there was instructions either. Lol. I also found out during cycling things to trim.

 

The details about the coil bucket are in fact in instructions but it would probably help to have a copy on hand. Lol

I also had to run the spacers at the bottom even though I’m not running the 934s because the zerk fitting and CV had no clearance.

Curious to know what you had to machine down though?

 

Just some of the spacers in the arms. Fit was really tight so I did some massaging of the spacers to my liking. Others may not be so picky.
