Helped my son with his 2 mowers that didn’t run ... push mowers with Briggs/stratton engines and both with plastic carbs.... easy peasy. He takes the carbs off and I clean them... I show him what to do. He gets them back together and 1 runs and the other tries to run.... I look at his install work :-/ somehow he had the choke arm jammed closed. Kids! ;-) he’s learning. They both run now ... time for bed. Long day it was

I meant to post this awhile back but the oil filters that fit our 2.7L Tacos also fit Kohler engines. I buy the Toyota filters in a 10pk from Amazon for $4 each and have them on hand. I think the kohler filters are $8-10/each. My 2 Kohler Commands have Toyota filters on them.

If it weren’t for buzzard luck I’d have none at all.

Truth is that this machine has sat idle for over ten years so I’ve expected that it would need heaps of maintenance to get it sorted again. It’s just everything else that being thrown in my path this month which makes it so frustrating.

Brush hawging with the Swisher today. Pulled by the nekkid liquid cooled 3205. Grass is 30+ " high. The Swisher DGAF, cuts the same at 5mph as it does at 2mph.

Drilled the rivets out of all three idler pulleys. I have new bearings that cost me about $3 each. Buying new idler pulleys complete cost around $30 each. just seems to make sense to grind the rivets out and install bolts with a new bearing.

I pop the bearing cover off the new bearing and add additional grease.

I use lock nuts with grade 5 bolts.PXL_20210523_205533280.jpg

I don't know. I can't remember what the can said. I squeegied out the leftovers and put the grease in a 2 gallon bucket. This was 15 years ago. I still have a lot left.

I do the same thing on my Kohler V-Twin. I can barely squeeze a 3614 equivalent in there, but it fits. I used a $4 STP this time around. Locally Kohler filters are $12-$13

I used a fatter sized filter one time with the same thread pitch and gasket size. Think the filters fit alot of AMC cars back in the day.

However the steering linkage in my Cub got it dented a little bit...

Thread size is 3/4-16 and the gasket size is roughly 3" for those who want to go down the rabbit hole of filter cross referencing. Pretty sure Briggs will take the same filter. The Kawasaki filters have the same thread pitch size, but smaller diameter.
