I honestly have no clue how I have been so lucky. I have never ever given it a thought until this posting. I have been self-employed for most of my adult life (not a driving type of job). Maybe that is it, I get to plan a lot of my things and only do them on off times. I would never go to to the grocery store on the weekends... etc.. I HAVE waiting to wash my damn truck! Hell, I have run OUT of gas on the side of the road a few times... but never sat in a line ever to get gas. Maybe I would just never pull into a full station... and I just don't even give it a thought... drive on and get gas another day. I have also never had a vehicle that had such terrible mileage is my Taco. I had no idea waiting was even a thing until this post, lol. I do recall hearing about the lines in the 70s but, I was a child then and don't recall any of that.

Yeah, I drive on by when I can and it’s not as if there aren’t other stations with fewer cars but shell, chevron, and others set their prices 25 cents a gallon higher. That’s $4-5 so I’ll either wait then at my station of choice or do it the next day. Sometimes though there’s no choice. Most highways carry a ton of people heading home on Sunday's from weekend getaways and if you’re more than a tank from home then get in line.

I’ve had to wait a handful of times living in rural Colorado, Denver, DC and now Portland. Honestly lines at the pump I can handle but not being able to pump my own gas here in Oregon is very annoying. I’ll say it again, 1200 miles on my Prius prime and I haven’t even used half a tank of gas, a single charging station or had to wait on anything. I plug it in when I get home and it’s ready for my commute in the morning. BEV’s are not that complicated, I get range anxiety and road trip worry but for 90% of your driving you can probably just charge overnight and never have to worry about it.

Re: waiting for gas - I've never been to a Costco that didn't have a line to fill up.

You mean like we currently have with gasoline engines? If water gets up to the air intake, your engine will seize. EVs won't have this vulnerability. I would wager EVs will be far more capable in water crossings than current vehicles (see a recent thread about someone's 4WD malfunctioning after a heavy rainstorm).

Enclosure design is a big part of designing sensitive electronic components for all applications from military to civil applications. It's too hard to keep components safe from water ingress.

The Rivian R1T has the ability to drive thru 3 feet of water.

Costco had absurd lines for gas. I went to San Diego in my Tesla with my friend and her family in their ICE car HAD to go get gas at Costco. They didn’t tell me they were just getting gas so we drove behind them to Costco, wasting our range, just to wait at Costco for 30-45 minutes. Her family kept hassling me about my range and need to stop and these idiots that could go anywhere for gas need cheap Costco gas.

It's actually 39" of water and RIVIAN said it could go deeper but it will start floating after that...lol Their door seals are apparently specifically engineered to prevent or reduce water and environmental gasses from entering through the doors.

If the Hybrid or electric Tacomas electrics are sealed up as well as Toyotas current hybrids then water ingress will not be a problem. From what I can see the external electrics on our RAV4 H appear to be at least IP 67. Wouldn't hesitate to submerge them and will be doing just that at boat launch time.

"Hey Siri, how did WW2 submarines work?"

I recall with the California wildfires a few years ago, Teslas have a feature that cycles the cabin air through high-level filters, reducing the chance of smoke inhalation. Not to mention that since they don't need O2 for ICE, they didn't risk having a close by flare up robbing the engine of air and stalling out.

You are talking about Bioweapon Defense Mode and with the wildfires last year that were super close to Portland it was the only way I was going to leave the house. Our AQI’s were in the 500-600 range.

I understand that the air filters are so good in the Tesla that they can be used, not only for smoke, but they have a bioweapon defense mode.

Having driven both manufactures systems, Fords hybrid drive isn't in the same league as Toyotas in any way, shape or form! Drive a RAV 4 H or Prime and you will see why they is so popular. If they follow suite and put their proven synergy drive in a Taco then it is sure to be a winner! Currently own a RAV4 H and would buy a Taco H in a heartbeat.

Except tesla struggles with the concept of mass production for volumes so small they are rounding errors for the other manufactures. They were hand building them in tents and still have issues like roofs flying off on a new car right off the lot. Tesla is an absolute joke when it comes to QC and well manufacturing anything. They can't make their own panels and how is that roof coming along?

It’s almost as if they’re relatively new company competing in a very challenging market against competitors who all have international business sharing and government back doors. Hell, they couldn’t even be sold in some states because the gubbermint forced them to have physical dealerships.

Not an excuse for poor QC. But they have a lot going ‘right’ in my eyes for how new they are. I’m always going to root for competition that drives innovation. Plus, it’s not like the fords/chevys I’ve owned in the past were the pinnacle of automotive quality.

All true for 2018-2019. 2020 all fixed . The two 2020s and one 2018 I drove seemed ok. Qc is way better now. Also the tooling and stamping for 2021+ will be easier for them to make cheaper and higher quality bodies.

Get on the list for the cyber truck bud. Forget all the lies and stop worrying about shifting into 4 wheel drive every 10,000 miles to “lube it up”. Wtf ? Gas trucks have more headaches / upkeep issues than a stripper girlfriend.
