Thank you sir, I don’t have instagram so that’s why I missed that one. I’ve run the traditional awnings for years but am now looking into the 270 design for our SP. I’m curious if anyone has run into any issue with the installation and or deployment of the 270 awning?

Id be curious too. Im sure youd adjust the doors to open at their middle spot and not all the way up.

Has anyone installed their house battery in the small cubby behind the driver? I'm hoping to get ideas on how to strap or tie the battery down. On the dual battery forum, I've seen a lot of people installing it on the other side behind the passenger. There are existing bolts there that you can use to bolt down a tray, but there aren't any existing bolts on the driver's side. Thinking of drilling new holes, unless anyone has a better idea? I'd rather not, because I'm not sure how much I'm going to like this setup. IMG_0969.jpg

I like the use of that space for the battery. Why not just put a top strap on it? Or maybe make use.of some rivnuts.

I bought a 1.5 NRS strap today to go over the top, but what am I strapping the battery to? I've never worked with rivnuts. Can you explain? Thank you

Drill a hole for the rivnut size. Not through the plastic cover, but the sheet metal.

    Install as shown.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkPhGIaPCVs

Then drill a hole through the plastic to let the bolt through and attach your strap with that.

You can use a large fender washer on the bolt and install grommets to the strap in order to bolt through them. Then use the cam on the NRS strap to snug it down.

Okay, yes that makes sense. I was thinking of just going through the straps with a fender washer. I was just debating if that was strong enough. Really haven't done much of this sort of thing before.

I've skimmed through this thread a couple of times and I think I've seen most of the setups, but is there anyone running one of these with a full drawer system? I'm wondering if there will be any issues/obstacles for getting up in the tent or standing up with 12in less clearance. Also, if there's anyone near Kansas or passing through (sorry for you), I'd love to check one of these out in person. So far, this is my favorite camper shell with tent, and I'm nearly convinced to put a deposit in.

I'll weigh in. As an official old guy I already find it a little difficult when buttoning up for the night to climb into the back, close the tailgate and door, and climb up into the bed area through the small opening (I have one of the last panels already in place holding my bedside stuff, and one panel still open). My setup is a little crowded toward the back with a camp kitchen on one side and a Yeti cooler on the other, so maybe a flat open space might be easier. Having said that, I can't imagine bending and twisting without a a lot of difficulty if I had 12 inches less height. But like my wife says I need to stretch more.

    lol. I feel this..

I always wondered what it was like long term, crawling up and in like that due to the wedge camper design. I havent heard much about it so I figured it wasnt really that big of a deal. I dont see any problem with it personally.. but who knows.. maybe with time (age) it will be a factor.. but like you said.. I'm sure my wife would blame it on me not stretching enough. lol

There's likely plenty of room for something like decked drawers, my tundra should have roughly 10+' of clearance when opened up. I used to have decked drawers but got rid of them for the same reason as Rick mentioned, they also weigh almost 250lbs and didn't want all that dead weight back there and was tired of loosing things in the back of the drawers.

Great feedback! I think this is something I really need to see/feel in person. I hadn't even thought about the process of closing the tailgate after climbing in. Another concern I have is doing all of this with my wife and very young daughter. What about running an external extension ladder on one of the sides?

Good to know! I was looking at the ARB Outback drawer setup, and I think the height is about the same as the Decked.

Ladder on the outside is the way to go if you’ve got stuff in the bed. I only bring the ladder out for my wife, I just use the bumper the tailgate ledge to get up there

Haven't used a ladder so I don't know, but I got this thing so I wouldn't have to use a ladder. Otherwise it's basically a RTT on top of a shell, which is OK if you're OK with that.

Also, re the original question, there's plenty of headroom with the wedge open, decked system or not, once you move the panels back. So that shouldn't be a problem. Just the logistics of the "lower deck" vs. the "upper deck."

i used to have a truck vault drawer set up, i sold mine to help fund the camper but also cause of its weight and i had the higher drawer set up which i felt would be waste of space. If i where to do one would only be a single drawer on one side and make it second as a bench. That being said I'm looking at 80/20 custom set up or some kind of cases that i can move around when needed. Same as others have mentioned.

second i’m in northern colorado i might be the closest SP camper too you if your in Kansas not sure if there is any others i don't have any plans going out east at the moment. I do know spenser mentioned they have plans at being at overland west or mountain Expo event in loveland end of aug i think.

I looked at Truck Vault, but man... $$$$$. I also thought about doing a single ARB drawer, and may start there. I can always add another and the floor kit at a later time. I've also explored the 80/20 options and I'm just about over the totes we're currently using.

Can you buy a ladder through SP? Or is there a specific one you are using?

Hah! My 2017 DCLB has been getting avg MPG of 17 since I got it! I have a shell on the back but that's about it and the mileage hovers between 15.5 and 17 at best. No clue why.
