BIG BEAR, California - Finally got to go camping in 2021 last weekend, May 1-2.

Gotta try this portable grill if you’re wanting to go get one or upgrade. It’s a bit chunky; although, not too chunky. Weighs about 20lbs, but, hey, it’s car camping/glamping. This trip was its maiden voyage out camping. It did not disappoint. The grilled steaks, asparagus and kielbasas cooked on it were great. Planning on tailgating at work with it sometime, if HR approves.

Mountain Hatch tailgate panel is good for holding other things besides dranks.

Slipped on some new 33" duratracs before coming down to FL. Anyone else get major loss in mileage after tire size increase? I did the KDMAX performance tune at the same time, so having a hard time determining what did what.

I'm aware of the offset in dash speed/mileage to actual, but even when I factored for the difference I had a huge loss. Got a hypertech speedo adjuster in hand when I've time to install.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)

Try driving it a bit different with the tires. Coast more. I get on average 16mpg per tank (on the dash) and Im armored and on 35s. I usually drive at 60 on the speedo, so thats around 67 mph. Also recommend cheacking your tire pressure.

Such a clean truck! Love the simple OEM look. Are you running stock trd off road suspension here? 265/75 r16 Falkens? SL rated tires?

These were taken on Fins n Things in the Sand Flats recreation area.

I’ll look up those spots you mentioned. Not the most familiar with the trails out there but will definitely be going back.

We took the La Sal cut through to get back, La Sal loop road to Gateway, CO. If you haven’t done that before I highly recommend it as an I-70 alternate.

What trails were you taking? I'm thinking of checking out big bear for the first time this weekend. Was gonna try getting to a yellow post site but if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them!

Mostly 3N14 and 3N16, north of Big Bear.
https://www.backroadswest.com/blog/back-road-to-big-bear/ This is a long network of trails that is nice to break up to smaller sections and camp, explore, enjoy.

Pilot Rock Truck Trail is nice, too. That one is more West, closer to Lake Arrowhead (Silverwood Lake <->Lake Arrowhead)

Have your printed camp fire permit handy and pick up an Adventure Pass at a Big 5 or some place. Honk your horn around blind corners, don’t speed on the trails and be prepared for dispersed camping/off-road driving. Our lead Taco got into a head on collision once with a girl and her friend coming around a blind corner way too fast on their utv. Thankfully, everyone was okay. ...gave him an excuse to buy a metal bumper. If you can, go with another rig of people who know the way. Hope you have a great weekend!

I did Long canyon last September. Started at the bottom near the river and drove up. My DCLB had no problems. From there, I stopped in at Dead Horse State park for lunch and then on the the Schafer Cayon rd, past the famous "Thelma and Louise Point" (location shot in the move) and back to Moab for beer and then north to BLM land for camping. The drive down into Schaffer canyon is not to be missed. Watch some of the youtube videos.
