Ive never driven one yet just but am curious if they have enough balls, ive owned a ford explorer 4.0 and currently have a jeep Grand cherokee 4.0 I6 and in my opinion these things just dont impress me they lack the power i want
    Hows the Taco stack up??
I have the jeep and my Mitsubishi Eclipse rigth now and the women wants me to get rid of the car so im thinking of selling both and buying a taco but i need power... will i get good enough power from the taco or do i need to go with an 8cyl to do it

Heres my car i dont wanna sell but its not a "family ride"

You wouldn't believe how many people have been shocked by how mean the 4.0 in my truck really is. And its still stock.

Yeah I have drove both a jeep and the explorer. I personaly think that the tacoma's blow them away. Just the sound that my tacoma makes when I stomp on the gas and blow by them big suv's and fords. And for stock it kind of sits you back in the seat if you have your rpm's just right.

I have an 06 Explorer and an 05 Taco and the Yoda is way faster. Even my wife who dirves the Ford comments on how much power my truck has. I don't know what Toyota does to these things but you would never be able to tell that they are both "4.0L V6" engines.

No matter what, it will be better than that chick car (are you a chick?). Hell, even my own sister drove one of those.

I'm really just messing with you but yeah, go drive a Tacoma. I had an '05 Altima 3.5SE that was quite a bit faster than the Tacoma but I can barely notice at this point. I also had a V8 Explorer and there's just no competition, the Tacoma is faster and more fun to drive.

Depends on what you are use to... I have had MANY differnt vehicles from 4cyl trucks to v8 trucks to cars. My friends joke and say i go through vehicles like underwear.

Compared to my GMC Sierra 5.3 V8 that i chipped The tacoma feels like a v6 as well as comparing it to a SUPERCHARGED Frontier i owned. I bet it is equally as quick as my 06 Acura TSX 205 HP (wifes ride...)

But if you are looking for a great looking truck with the BEST resale value and still gets decent milage and can do about anything.. This truck is great.

I often wish I could have found a 4cyl. due to the milage i get with my truck.. average around 15mpg. Got 15 towing my jet ski... on the freeway going about 70-75 the whole time over 6% grades.
Never taken it on a FLAT highway trip to see what it can get.

I was getting close to that 13-19 with my Sierra. So it depends on what you are after!!

Hell yeah they do! the V6 in these Tacomas are very powerful from the factory but if you want more you can always add the TRD supercharger to it. it'll get you about another 80 or so HP i've heard. I just saw a test that stated the Tacoma DC LB with a SC will do 0-60 in only 6.6 seconds! Just looking at the 0-60 times of these trucks there arent many other trucks that can deliver the same performance unless you get a big V8 like the 6.2 in the new chevy/gmc's. An access cab V6 auto 4x4 Tacoma does 0-60 in like 7.3 seconds, the other 1/2 ton chevys, Rams and F150s are slower, in the 8's to mid 9's. I think even the new Tundra DC 4x4 with the 5.7L i-force is about 7.2 seconds from the factory, so that shows how much these Tacos really have!

I had the SOHC in the 01 Ranger Edge. There is a good bit more power avaiable in the taco. at lower revs also. but if I want to go fast and have a lot of power avaiable I pull out my 07 FZ1.

It's adequate but I'd like at least 40 more HP.

I have the six speed, and in first gear when you take off it is way too easy to spin the rear tires. I had 1100 pounds of fieild stone in it yesterday, Its actually easier to control the take off with some weight in it! plenty of power. I routinely have heavy payloads (over 800lbs) in the truck and u barely notice.

Acceleration on all the models is very good. As others have said, you should take it for a test drive, if it still doesn't have the acceleration you want, negotiate in the supercharger. The handling for the pre-runners and 4x4 is like that of a truck. If you can get the access cab you should look at the x-runner. The handling benchmark for the X-Runner was the 350Z.
