Door check stop needs replacing

Well this is a first gen thread, so you might want to adjust your strategy. Not sure if the part is the same or not for second gen.

Google Tacoma door check.

 

Finally sick of my driver's door attacking my ankle... Did some research, found this thread. Also found this:

The site says it does not fit my 2003, but there is a review that says it fits a 2002 Taco. I think it looks like the correct part? Can someone confirm?

 

The Manufacturers part number in the Amazon add has been replaced by a newer number. If you look at the Camelback page for that number and scroll down to the "Vehicle Fitment" section it does not list 1st gen trucks. I don't think that is the correct part number.

When I click your second link, at the bottom of the page is a link that says "5 more fitments". It links to "javascript:;". Looks like a broken link to me. Can you confirm this for me? It'd be nice to see what else the door check fits...

 

I recently "fixed" mine instead of replaced them, got the parts on EBay and they shipped from Russia. I think I got all the parts to do my 4 door for like $38, shipped, or about 10% of OEM replacement cost. Just got the drivers side doors done a few weeks ago and the results are great.

Credit card hack more likely. Had a friend who needed software to reset his key code security after lock replacement, only place he could get it was from Russia.

Thanks for starting this thread. Just ordered an OEM LH check arm, p/n 68620-04010. Not quite the same discount as Camelback Toyota, but local dealer with some discount.
Gives me something to do this weekend.

 

After watching Timmy’s video I think I’ll just replace the whole thing with OEM when/if the time comes.

 

Same here. For under a hun don't have to wait for some package from far away and deal with taking the unit apart. Since you have to go through the hassle of taking the door panel off, screw it, would just rather replace the whole unit. Now, if the replacement part were unavailable, that is another story.

So, I replaced the LH unit today. The door stop itself is about a 5 minute job. Removing and reinstalling the door panel and taking a damp microfiber cloth and cleaning was an hour. I recommend just replacing the whole unit with an OEM, made in Japan part. My old one had the rubber part on the end of the arm broken (just like Timmy warned about) and I found it in the bottom of the door. Now the door operated like new! I am so pleased that I am going to order the RH door unit!

 

Not sure how you could recommend one process over the other since you're only familiar with one of them, but I agree! it sure is nice having your doors work like new! I love that my four doors now work like they did when they were brand new, and I took the $385 of savings and bought a front and rear receiver hitch for my winch setup, And with the money left over from that, but enough beer to keep me entertained for the installation of said receivers.

Objectively to all users, I'm not sure if I can recommend using the Russian plastic replacement parts... But if you're the type of person that likes things to work properly, prefer to maintain over re-place, and you also happen to like saving a ton of money. Buyer beware!

To 04 tacomas point, pulling the door panel, cleaning, putting it back in is an hour of work, 5 minutes to pull the OEM unit and replace it with OEM, add another 5 minutes to replace the plastic parts, and it seems like a no brainer to me, but perhaps there are more straw men in this world than I thought...

 

Well, I did the RH door today. As with the LH side and with everything I do on the vehicle, I went with OEM part (cost less than a hun). Just like left side, spent an hour cleaning with damp microfiber cloth, however, the actual door stop replacement took less time on account of I had recent experience from working on the LH side.

 

just bought one for $18 on ebay. toyota wants $145, others $86

Installed it today in less than an hour. Used towel trick to get spring clip off window crank handle. worked like a charm.
