Using 4hi on steep driveway?

Hi guys so I recently moved to a new place where the driveway is like a mountain. I find the truck struggling on 2wd coming out of the driveway. Would it be fitting to shift to 4hi for this driveway? Or should I do 4lo? TIA

 

4high not recommended on dry pavement.. I would say not the best idea .plus u need to be in 4high first then go to 4low it won’t engage going straight to 4 low .

 

On Friday use reverse.

I mean, its a steep drive, but its not that steep. Are you squealing tires or losing power? There might be bigger issues at hand if you lack the power to climb that.

4Hi doesnt give you any more gas pedal. 4Lo would give you a lower gear.

if you have an automatic put it in 1st gear manually and push the ect button.

 

30 psi. I will be here for the long term and I do not want to damage anything. I also have neighbors so doing a peel out and going nowhere was really fun.. It has been 1 week that I've been using 4hi to get out

 

If you legitimately need 4WD to get up that driveway, your truck is fucked.

 

Yes 4wd hi is fine on dry as long as you don't make any sharp turns.

 

4Hi works short term. For long term I would lay down a texture top coat on the driveway to help improve traction for all vehicles.

 

The driveway is almost polished concrete. When you live across the street from a dirt mound, dust gets onto it, creating a slippery surface.

 

4 high on pavement is fine if not turning tight. Though if you are struggling to get up that in 2hi and it's not a traction issue 4 high won't help...

So 4 low, which again is fine if not turning tight.

There's also the 2 low mod.

 

4wd on dry pavement is fine if you're going straight.

 

The angle maybe means sand and gravel and anything that drops off your frame will slide down to your rear wheels and compromise traction. Try a regular sweeping of the driveway and maybe keep something in the back for a bit of weight over your drive wheels.

Also try 2nd gear if it's a manual. Dunno if the auto has a 2nd gear start. You could try. Put it in 2nd and if it revs a little more than usual it has 2nd gear start.
