Is it just me or is the Knurling on the Delrin ring Grippier on these latest Knobs than on Previous Versions. If so Jealous!

 

I made the change almost 2 years ago, from cuts every 5 degrees to every 6 degrees. I can only go so deep before I hit the ring pins (which would destroy the tool), so I also grind my own cutters now to be as wide a groove as possible at full depth. Also, now with an offset tip to mitigate burrs forming, and as a result do not have to polish them as much as I had previously. I can't tell you how many recipes I tried before I was happy, at least 2 dozen. The top engrave and collar engravings use a completely different tool grind relative to the grip grooves.

I like them both (5 and 6 degree) honestly, my Ti is still the older style and I won't change it. Both completely different feels and I haven't decided which one I prefer. 6 degree cuts are certainly more photogenic, though.

I also did a 3 degree for the only non-delrin/alum knob that was ever knurled. More lines at minimum depth ... the only way I could get a cutter to last the whole process. This took many hours.

 

I watched your video of the process and man that is very cool. You clearly have a talent! So glad I'm following this thread now.

Took me a few days to get to it, finally installed. Looks great, vast improvement

Also improves shifter feel quite nicely.

 

Is this the V3 aluminum or SS? Can you share where you got the shift boot? I like it. Thanks

 

This one is the Ti knob (manual, V2). The shift (and e-brake) boot is from Redline (redlinegoods.com).

It's part of what took me a while to get this done, doing the e-brake boot turned out to be something of a pain to get that metal clip all settled back in straight

 

The materials are nice, but the parking brake boot and console cover were not well done. At least the boot is staying in place and the extra foam isn't breaking down.

 

Yeah, the shifter boot itself was fine to install (stapled), and the parking brake boot looks good, but that clip is pretty iffy (even on the OEM boot, not to mention moving it to a new one).

It's good for now, I'm thinking of 3d printing something up to handle it better, though

I didn't bother with the console cover, the stock one seems fine for me, I just wanted the thread detail on the boots.

 

I just wanted something a bit taller, but their foam was too soft and the cover was a pita to fit properly.

 

Finally got some free time to install this purdy new knob along with my Redline shift and e-brake boots. I think it turned out pretty nice! (Understatement of the year!)


I still might do some color-filling to the top engraving to really make it stand out, but I couldn't resist getting it installed any longer!


The titanium is reallllll nice! Rick is the man!
