Lowering shackles? Anyone?

Does anyone know of a company that makes lowering shackles for 1st gens? I found that Total Chaos makes em for the Tundra but not Tacomas. I couldnt find them anywhere smh.. Chromoly preferred

 

Why you wanna lower the rear? Are shakles are pretty small to start with

 

Rear end sits a little higher than the front with my Deaver pack. Plus Ill be doing leaf under pretty soon which basically requires a lowering shackle

 

Yeah, I'm not sure you can get a shackle any shorter than the stock size. It would end up binding.

Maybe put some 10mm spacers in front? That should raise the front a bit...

Did you ever get the shackles? I have a 5 lug that I’m wanting to lower the rear to level out my bilstien 4600 and want to do shackle kit but can’t find one to lower only lift but might have to end up doing blocks? Not sure what to do

 

Anyone figure out a shackle kit to lower rear on 01-04 5 lug?

 

As far as im aware there isn’t a kit to lower. Your best bet is blocks

 

Sounds like not a ton of stuff on the market for First Gens. I do have to say I think it's hilarious...as soon as someone says anything about lowering a Tacoma guaranteed someone will do tha " why ya wanna lower a taco" . .... because. .. it's mine...and I want to. I have been searching everywhere for anything to lower my prerunner 2 in the front 3 in the rear. I hope someone finds something . Good luck

 

Seems to me a short run of custom lowering shackles might be in order.

After all you do know what you want and need just a matter to flesh out a drawing and shop it around.

pre sell maybe 10 sets see how it goes at least 10 people should be interested.

 

Well Wyoming09 I was thinking about it and ya know if a person could design something that works it maybe wouldn't make someone a millionaire but I know from reading these forums contrary to popular belief there is quite a few people that's interested in lowering thier Prerunner.

 

I have nothing against lowering a vehicle. You do you.

What people are objecting to is the practicality of lowering a 4x4 truck, specifically a Tacoma.

People ask about "lowering shackles" I guess because lift shackles exist, but it doesn't work that way. Tacoma shackles are already short, so you can't really get anything shorter (it would have to be custom anyway). Not to mention that you shouldn't use shackles to gain any more than about an inch or you screw up the geometry. Tacoma leafs are also already pretty flat from the factory, so it not like you can just toss on some leafs with less arch. So you're pretty much looking at a spring-under, which will drop it by like 5", now you need to lift it back up to get to that 3" drop you want, with custom leafs or an add-a-leaf. Now you have drive line issues, where it's likely to be too long.

And that's just the rear. I guess just cut the coils low rider style, because nothing exists for that.

What you're looking for is a 5 lug.

Yes, I have the opinion that it's not very practical, but I also laid out the method I think would work best, and why other methods won't work.

 

Over the years people bring me drawings they pay the amount I build for the most what they think they want.

Sometimes hands on is the only way to explore a very well thought idea that just does not work when put in place.

Then just as many work very well beyond any idea.

Bottom line it is your platform go for it.
