Painting the cats is like locking your doors, it won't stop all theft, but will deter some.

Its a simple thing to do that only costs a couple bucks. Not everyone wants a skid plate, because only a small part of the tacoma owners go offroad. If a thief has a choice between 2 cars, one has painted cats they know they cant sell unless they can scrub every bit of paint off, and the other has clean cats. The thief is going to take the clean cats.

RCI skid for gen3. 4inch wide by approx 12inch wings added to reduce the ability to get to at least one end of the secondary cats easily.

Hmmm, not a bad idea, and my RCI alu skids are still uncoated. Should get this done before I have them painted.

If I were to do it again I would add another inch or two in width on the wings and/ or kick up about 30 degrees towards the frame.

The way it is now you could still cut them off with really long blade however it would be a pain to do it quickly.

On the skid plate idea, just be careful with where you go off-road. Few vehicle fires I’ve read about have been started by designs where long grass gets caught between skid and exhaust. Good friend came close but caught it in time, others haven’t been so lucky. Seems more common on Jeep’s. So Google that if you need proof.

RCI says they are working on metal wings that attach to the transmission skid to protect the Cats. This way you can still have a steel skid plate and Cat protection. No desire for an aluminum one.

I had mine stolen in August, my out of pocket was about a grand. $500 deductible + the stainless steel miller Cat shield. The stealership did the repair, the whole job was almost $2900.00

What do you mean + the shield, did they cut that as well or did you mean you just included that in the repair cost?

    None
Are the miller cat cat shields good and have good air flow?
Edit to add: thinking of getting one but not sure if I should get aluminum or stainless
