    lol i've been considering it.

that being said, it doesn't seem any of them fit precisely to my tent's unfolded dimensions of 56x96? largest i see is about 80x52 on their site...but maybe i'm not searching right. I've also seen some people complain about using non-factory sleeping pads as they slide around with movement?

It's all moot anyways right now as I'm currently saving for a motorcycle lol. but maybe if there was a dimension specific model...i could be swayed...

REI also has a new sale like every other month so if not this one, I'll snag it on one of the next lol

Oh I agree. The thought of adding another tote to hold all the bedding and pillow is a major downside. But like you said if you can fit everything minus a real pillow then it ins't a real win. Keeping everything in my softshell now is a definite plus. And going to an inflatable pillow like I use backpacking isn't a viable solution.

I guess I have three options:
    • Roofnest and put an exped in there, and that should let me keep bedding in there. Problem with that is the sleeping platform is 48" wide, and the only option that isn't too big is only 41" side.
    • The CVT IF I can mange to squeeze it into the garage. When I called CVT he said the double channel, which is the only one they sell now is specifically designed to keep bedding in there. I'd really have to measure a few times to see if that 9.75" will clear. If it does, it will be by a hair.
    • Roofnest and use a really good down quilt like this https://enlightenedequipment.com/accomplice-custom/ I have a few quilts of theirs I use backpacking, and I really don't see how it can be that tight where it can't close. Good down compresses to almost nothing. This video shows it being done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHkjXHlvtKA

What I would do if you end up leaning towards the CVT is put a mock RTT on your truck. Like, remove your current RTT and duct tape something that's 9.75" tall to the top of the roof, whether it be a 2x4 cut to length, a cardboard box, whatever. Then you and truly see how much clearance you have and put your mind at ease. It'll be worth it before dropping thousands on a tent, at least IMO.

That is the one downside of the exped is it's not a perfect fit so it won't work well for all applications. I got lucky that length wise, it fits perfectly. Width wise, not so much but that doesn't matter because it's only ever me in the tent.

For sure. I thought of that today, it's going to be my weekend plan I think. With that, the only variable that I can't really account for is a mounting solution. I will probably call CVT again tomorrow to find out if their mounting rail is included in the 9.75". Otherwise I"ll have account for that plus the Prinsu tent feet too.

Yeah the 52" one is a perfect fit for many of the softshell options. That is too big for the width clamshell I'm looking at, and the next smallest one at 41" would sacrifice 7" of real estate which is a pretty sizable loss.

It's all fun and games until you drop your truck off at a body shop over the weekend, then get a last minute invite to a backpacking trip, only to realize all your backpacking sleeping gear is in your rtt on your truck.

At 2:02 in this video it looks like you can mount the CVT directly to the Prinsu feet. So if those bars are included in the 9.75" measurement, I'll just need to factor in the height of those feet. It's going to be a very very tight fit.

I noticed you mentioned wanting to be able to fit ALL bedding, including pillows.

I used a Klymit Luxe inflatable pillow. deflate when i pack it up and leave it in the tent...it flattens out to almost nothing. Takes like 3-5 breaths to fill it up.

Oh that looks pretty good actually. Pillows will be the final problem to solve, if I can't fit real ones I'll look into something like those thank you.

I try real hard not to mix kits. Other than the real expensive items I’d prefer duplicates of the necessities. Otherwise the hunting gear gets mixed with the truck camping kit which is mixed in with the ultralight backpacking gear and before you know I won’t know which end is up!

See the kicker is I haven't gone backpacking for quite some time so its far from a hobby and the gear relegated to truck camping duty, but since my truck was down...that's where it all went wrong.

    Yeah.
It actually fits really well width-wise, just leaves some room on the end length-wise. That's where I put my pillows when I fold it up, and where I keep my Ozarka bottle when sleeping. I wouldn't like having an extra tote for bedding.

EDIT: And it doesn't move around at all.

Hm that's good to know on both. Didn't even think about the shorter length allowing for extra storage lol.

And just like that you guys suck me back in like a 5 cent hooker

Called CVT. The 9.75" does included the bottom bar. So I need to take a final accurate measurement and account for the mounting feet, which, in all honesty I think will add up to too much height to clear.

That is a bummer. On the plus side, a wedge tent will still be a big upgrade, even if you can’t fit the bedding in it. My buddy with a normal falcon is still the first one setup and he keeps all bedding in his truck.

Agreed. I'm still going to attempt to measure this weekend (we have a 6 week old baby so time isn't always on my side the way I hope it is lately), but I'm not optimistic it will be close enough to gamble the purchase. I know I could always air down, or use my smaller tires, but I just don't want any more shenanigans. I just want to park my truck in the garage like a civilized person. There's no reason the Civic that I daily should get the spot in there.

I also believe that a good quality down sleeping bag or quilt can fit into the other tents and close. Good down compresses so tight, as long as I don't store the sleeping bag in there permanently it shouldn't be a problem and should work.

Oh man I feel you on the baby. Our first just turned 7 months old. Amazing how much time they consume and also how time flies.

Something to think about that I figured out the hard way on my road trip a short while back lol...

On the off chance you barely clear, or are just a hair shy of clearing, could you maybe load a couple dense/heavy items into the bed to weigh down the suspension?

I know you said you're tired of the shenanigans, but depending on your rear suspension it could be as simple as a full size spare or a decently heavy box. I found this out the hardway when I backed my truck into an Airbnb garage, fully outfitted, and it just barely cleared. Then, after I'd unloaded the truck and we were getting ready to go to dinner, I came to find out that without the extra weight, the truck was too high to pull out of the garage and I had to air down to like 15PSI to get the truck out (E rated tires). a person or two on the bed would have been enough to cover the difference, unfortunately at that time my gf was getting ready for dinner and there was no one else lol.

    just a thought

Yes, would definitely work. I'm also waiting on a @Mobtown Offroad HC bumper and swingout which will add weight, but then I'll have to add another leaf to my leaf pack to compensate for that weight. I've done the weight thing. I've done the low tires. I don't want to think about ripping tent off the rails because I don't have enough weight in the bed. If it's that close it's too close for comfort for me. Plus, the day I empty the bed will be the day my wife needs to use the truck and I'll have to tell her to make sure to add the 100 pounds to the bed first

That one time I added 300 pounds of lead over the rear axle to fit my tent under the door frame:
