So I finally decided to get pizza cutters. I went to the extreme end of the spectrum and bought a set of iron man all country m/t’s in 235/80r17. They should arrive at the shop by the end of the week. Can’t wait to get them mounted up.

They are LR E 10 ply tires. I do A LOT of driving so I figured it couldn’t hurt. They are going to be about 6lbs lighter per tire than my current mismatched set of 265’s

I’ll post pictures when I get them installed. Can’t wait to take them off road and put them to the test.

How low do you plan on airing down to for trails? Is that a thing with skinnies?

Don’t know yet. I’m going to experiment with it next time it rains. Yes you do air down skinnies. The whole point of having tall skinny tires is to have a longer tread patch contacting the ground when aired down. A big part of my decision to get 10 ply light truck tires is because of the fact that I drive up to 300 miles a day. I wanted a tire that would be much harder and more durable on the road while still getting hood off road performance.
I had pizza cutters on my truck when I first got it a decade ago and stupidly put wider tires on. My reg cab 4x4 went from pulling full sized trucks out of bogs to having trouble navigating actual trails with any amount of mud. I never once had to put my truck in 4L with pizza cutters to get out of anything. That became a regular thing with the wider tires. A big part of it is the fact that I have a 4cyl and I didn’t want to add to the rolling resistance.
The new tires should bring my truck back to its original off road performance.

Lol well they are still 32” tires so they aren’t small. More like a thin crust

I've got a set too, and I think mine are probably more like a pan pizza, 10" wide.

Is that a hilux 167 snorkel? I’m looking at throwing one on my truck in the next couple weeks.

I’m defiantly getting that one over the more popular snorkels. It looks A LOT better than everything else I’ve seen. Only thing I’m going to do differently is add a prefilter

yep the newer ones weren't available when I bought mine and installed, but if they were I think I'd still choose the one I have now over the more "bulky bloated" looking ones. I have what I like to call the "buglight" that is a dobinsons prefilter I sometimes swap the top out for when I know I will be out in super dusty conditions.

I live in very humid and dusty conditions here in south Texas. Plus I drive ~300 miles a day so it really couldn’t hurt to have the extra filtration/protection. I’ve also heard rumors about minor mpg gains. Don’t know how true it is but for $170 I think it’s worth the dust protection alone.

the tires I have on at the moment are only a half inch shorter than the 235/80r17’s I just purchased.
