Hell, if SR was still alive, nascar would be in a better place as a whole. Competition, points system, aero package, everything. I've always said, if he was alive, I believe there is a good chance he would be the president of nascar.

 Dale was a powerful figure in nascar, but I don’t think he would have that much influence.

He was pretty tight with the France family. If Bill France JR made rule changes or whatever, he'd consult with SR beforehand.

Not sure who’s seen this but it’s the most I’ve ever seen Jr open up about the relationship he had with Sr

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Dale Sr. had a lot of pull with Bill France. Larry Mac said when he took over as crew chief for Sr. that someone would come across the radio and call himself the Captain and called Dale Sunday Money. LM thought it was a fan and started to rip into him until RC snatched him up and told him to shut up it was Bill France talking to Dale during the race.

Rumor is that when Dale finally won the 500 Bill France came across the radio and told him to bring it home that day.

I don’t doubt it, and it would be smart to be connected to Dale, he was the power house at that time. Things were different then, times changed as did NASCAR to get the money.

    Coke 600 by the numbers:
I had to pull the data and stats apart a bit here to focus on the eccentricity of the 600-mile event vs all other Charlotte events over the past decade (All-Star, Roval, 500 miler's past).

    Coke 600 Wins by Manufacturer:
    Chevrolet 5
    Toyota 4
    Ford 1

Coke 600 Wins over Past Decade among Active Drivers:
    Keselowski -1
    Harvick -2
    Truex -2
    Dillon-1
    Ky Busch -1

Coke 600 Driver Average Finish (excluding 2020 rookies):
    Ky Busch 9.7
    Hamlin 10.9
    Truex 13.4
    Larson 13.6

This race has produced 10 first-time Cup winners, most recently, Austin Dillon in 2017. If anyone can beat the Gibbs Toyotas, look to Chevy, but not Hendrick. They haven't won since 2014 and are spotty outside Jimmy Johnson's mid-aughts dominance. Still, Bowman and Larson are young & hot but do they have the stamina to be in front after 599 miles? I'm holding out hope for another first-time winner in a big moment.

Power picks: Hamlin 11, Truex 19, Busch 18
Hopeful picks: Bowman 48, Larson 5
Possible first-time winner pick: Reddick 8
    Darkhorse: Wallace 23 (Gibbs power)

Would be awesome to see the 21 win this if the 9 does not.

I agree but Matty’s avg. finish here is like 28th. It would surely be a sentimental high point of the season if he won.

Chase on the other hand will be running with a new spotter since ol’ Eddie withheld reporting to HMS and NASCAR about his arrest last September for taking a swing at a pregnant woman at a jet ski rental joint on Lake Norman.

Chase will be fine. Bill will probably be in his ear. I am sure ol Rick can pull about anyone he wants. Maybe TJ Majors will dump the 22 and come home.

His average finish is skewed due to his days at Go Fas/ LFR. Since being in the 21 he has surpassed all his average finishes.

He was top 15 last year... and even led for a time.

Someone was asking about a Elliot Sadler throw back, awhile back. Well Matty D is running one in the southern 500.
