Thanks Tacoma Mike and roundrocktom for the response to my question about the A/C TSB. Would have said this yesterday but was busy in the yard taking advantage of an afternoon with no rain. Guess for now I'll just monitor the A/C cooling situation.

roundrocktom, I did fly with the Fault Line Flyers 2010-2016. Was even on the BOARD a couple of years. Late 2016 I decided I was doing more work for/at the club than flying, so I sold my glider and left the sport behind. After 22 years, it was time. No regrets.

Talking about gliders, there is a small grass airport near me (Beltz's airport AKA Beltzville airport), where they fly gliders out of, last week I would hear the louder sound of a plane engine, look up, and there was a plane towing a glider. I don't know if they use a specific plane to tow them, but the engine sounds really loud compared to normal and seems to be going really slow.

The AC TSB has me down the rabbit hole.

I planned on mounting a second battery box in the back corner of my engine compartment. However, Underhood so flooded cells are best to resist heat, AGM's are better for vibration of off-road but don't do well with heat. Lithium underhood is not good, just too hot.

You can get a Marine battery, and it would be happy with my fridge and CPAP. Charge while driving (DC/DC convertor like the Redarc 1225), or use solar when parked for more than a day. That was my plan. The TSB shows the Toyota guys will use those two 6mm fender holes for a bracket for an auxiliary fuse panel and relay. Viola, don't put a battery there until I get the supplemental AC fan addressed. More rabbit holes, I'll make my own version of a Jackery 500. I want 12V to be used for charging, but a simple relay will switch power from car battery to lithium-ion battery when I stopped.

I need to do some research as I keep seeing "Alternator should be set to a higher voltage to charge an AGM battery fully." However, I'm questioning that as the charge profile needs to specify "at this temperature" Making it worse is rebranded suppliers list a voltage/but not a temperature. There are five manufacturers; most batteries are just "relabeled" from one of those suppliers. One has double the price, but a great warranty. They are just sourcing their batteries and hope for less than 10% returns under the warranty period or deny claims! Even Autozone realized "convenience is why people buy from us," so they doubled their price as most customers have a stranded vehicle!

@95SLE The modern computers should drop AC when accelerating. Full throttle; turn off AC, turn off the Alternator (battery only) while getting on an onramp. Load shedding has been designed into vehicles for a few years. However, the newer Toyota uses LIN (Local Interconnect Network) for communication to the alternator. 130 Amp Alternator is less than 3hp drag, but everything adds up, hence load shedding.

For anyone wanting to learn more, ST is one supplier of Automotive Car Alternator Voltage Regulators. Denso makes their own but doesn't publish details. However, this should give insight into the modern alternators and how they are evolving.

NVM = Non volatile memory. This allows Tech Stream type control of parameters. Yes, there is another microprocessor inside the alternator, LIN communications with the ICU.

Good Morning Porch People! Looks to be a suitably hot and muggy day to mow. Then we're going to jack up the son's Prius, and fix that split chin before it gets worse. (He's good at maintenance if I bug him enough.) Here's a look at the total pepper fail - guess I will go shopping for some replacements tomorrow.

If the tow plane "looked funny" with just one person cabin, most likely a Piper Pawnee. Commonly used for crop dusting, but make a great tow plane.

One of my neighbor's friends came into our 3000 ft strip with a glider. I was thinking "when is the tow plane showing up?" It was a motor glider! Self-launching, motor pops up, and off you go (less than 1000' feet to launch). Well, clear off the neighbor's house at the end of the runway! House drops off from the runway, but on hot days that chimney looks too close. Density Altitude! It's Hot and humid this week so takes much longer to get airborne.

Heading to MonkeyMountain mid-morning. Trail report is good so we're going in with trucks & trailers. I'm hauling in the enclosed trailer we'll turn into a mobile tool crib complete with welder and generator. Danny hauling in little trailer that has been housing new young chickens in his garage the last month, stirring up quite a dusty mess he'll be happy to get clear of. I'll try to remember to grab a couple "wagon train" pics. Weather looks 50/50, so we'll hope for the best and deal with whatever the fickle witch throws our way.

My 2007 was that way the few times I needed to use AC, I think it's characteristic of the 4cyl for obvious reasons; happy to have the manual trans in those moments.

Root Canal day this afternoon. Not looking forward to having it done, but I need to.

That is a really nice gift Mike. Love the mug. And like others have said about the shirt, "just don't get any grease on it". Not yet any way.

Take it easy at golf today Mark, don't want to aggravate the nerve in your neck.

I had the same speed issue with my 2.7 L when using the AC or going up a hill with or with out a load Tom. Thankful I had a manual to down shift so I could maintain a steady speed.

Yep, there are many different types of towplanes .... Pawnee's, Cessna's, Callair's, L-19's (Birddog), etc.. In hot climates (best for gliding) the more horsepower the plane has the better, especially if it's pulling a heavy glider with water ballast. Filling the wings with water lets you achieve your max L/D at a higher speed .... important in contests or trying to set some record flight. The tow pilot will tow you at the speed you ask for based on your glider and weight. Typically 50-70 knots.

And you're right. The trend the past 20 years has gone to motorgliders (think $$$$$). Two types -- self-launching and sustainer. A sustainer engine might be 15-20 HP and is only used if you're far away from a landing spot and need to gain some altitude to "make it back". Thing to keep in mind is with the engine extended your drag increases big time!

the noise you hear is from a hi performance airplane. AKA more than 200 hp. It has a variable pitch prop so power and economy can be adjusted. The noise you are hearing is the prop in the take off/ power mode..

Easiest root canal I ever had (5 previous ones). No issues even after the feeling returned to my lips and mouth. Pick up the Tacoma from the body shop today. They were waiting on the black fender flare to come in. I hope they didn't use Amazon LOL.

Today is easy but sort of busy. First hearing aid adjustment at 11:20 this morning. Need to do three errands before the appointment. I might be able to rehang 2 shed doors in the afternoon but that will probably wait till Sunday due to weather. Ribeye's on the EX6 for dinner tonight.

The closest "shipping point" to me is a Hub... and they won't accept the labels usually given by Amazon for returns. They "can't scan them"... so I have to jump through hoops to get something shipped back. The last time was when I ordered my Geolandars and they sent P tires instead of LTs. What a nightmare. How hard is it to have a scanner for returns?
