    Calling all plasma CNC peeps:

Is this the result of EMI causing steps to be missed?

1st one cut was pretty decent. The 5th one is a reject. The other three were except able, but not as good as the 1st.PXL_20210526_220144018.jpg

just some ideas not a software person.

My first Question would be is the air volume and pressure staying where it should be.

Is the Air Compressor or any other load starting drawing enough current the plasma is losing output.

which might effect the cnc unit as well.

    do the easy first.

    Same part -2 different methods.

    1 - stringers
    1 - weaves

Both by robot....my hand is not that steady.

I bet it improves once you throw some.emi filtering on your lines.

    A thing or two...
Are the axis screw drive or belt driven? If they're belt driven, have you checked the tension? They could have stretched and be loose.

This post has triggered a thought.

Maybe I have a loose set screw on the "X" axis stepper or gear drive. There is only one stepper on the "x" axis. The "y" axis has 2 steppers running the gantry forward and back. Hard to believe both those loosened up the same.

    Will report back.

    Thanks

My plasma table is working just fine :D

    Just kidding @koditten

You’re a badass for making your own!

I had a little time after work and made a small bit of progress on my dual Jerry can holder. Made a front cover that will hinge down and back up to lock the Jerry cans in and prevent sticky fingers. Gotta add a couple pieces to it but like where it’s going so far

I'm still progressing with only 2D. I really want to learn sheet metal soon.

I just checked the stepper motor. There are 2 set screws on the gear, but only 1 flat on the stepper arbor.

I was able see that the gear had shifted on the shaft. Neither set screw was perfectly landing on the flat. Leads me to believe it was slipping.

I didn't have time to do a test cut, so I can't be 100% sure.

Always check the simple and easy first before pulling controllers and motors apart .

So often it is something simple.
