I used to weld ages ago when Ihad my old Supra.... what you do here is pretty impressive!!

 

Thank you sir! Creating is a bit of a passion, and this is such a great learning experience and adventure in expressing that creativity.

 

The spoiler mod. Had this thing in the corner for ~7 years. Talk about a slacker. Quite the sturdy construction, I must say. It is solid. Purchased it from Strictly Street way back then.

The hold up, was mainly that I didn't want to install it on a bent tailgate. Which took forever for me to get around to repairing. As well as I wanted a better tailgate panel, and never knew if there would be any interference.

@Lucario Runner enlightened me to this company.



With the combination of the prior reinforcing that I did, and this panel, that tailgate is very study! Perfect seat for the whatevers that pop up, or after a bike ride with the lady, with those cup holders.



That added weight from these pieces, was instantly noticed. Being effectively the furthest back point, that weight made the rear feel much less light. More of a front to rear balance now. As well as a tailgate strong enough to support your 300 lbs friends without worry of the tailgate turning into a bucket seat. Lol.

 

These are the same updates that I have uploaded to the Turbo B.S. thread, but need to have a more finished update for where I left off.

Top intercooler brackets finished.



Hybridized the external housing to an internal housing. Can't get much better priority than that.



Waiting on a few things to finish these updates.

 

In the meantime, I've been having some fun with this.

 

If only those were gold.... then we'd be spending much more time over there "helping" you with the trucky.

Swapped out the tubing end, as the previous turbo used a o-ring v-band flange.



Shorter turbine housing meant for an extension to the downpipe.



Looking pretty sweet, waiting for a coupling and some other parts. Added the oiling feed line from. The Mishimoto oil sandwich plate adapter. So simple a source.



Chose to route the wastegate hose from the compressor housing. To keep the boost a tad lower, than if it were referenced from the intake manifold. Maybe only seeing a 1-2 psi drop.



Then it was time to pull the engine and swap it, as it was rod knocker, and fix up some things while in there.



The engine mount needed a good bit of welding repair. Used a jack and a 4x4 to position it back in place. Cleaned out the cruddy rusted cracks, and filled in some fresh material.



The underside still needed some repair work. Desert racing lyfe. Owner was informed and promised to get after it with some gussets and a MIG at a later date.

 

Paying attention to how the engine torques to the passenger side, and that the passenger engine mount is thinner material than the driver side, you can see how this one failed.



Cut off the old, and added a thicker plate.




Put these plugs in against my better judgement. Played a part in the tuning. They were what were given. No big deal though. They're being changed. One main problem with these, is that they cannot be gapped.





New turbo housing had to notched for hardware clearance. Thank you Benchmark Abrasives.



Crank position sensor wires were holding on by who knows what, so I had to repair them. Fully taped up.

 

The last piece of the puzzle was routing the wastegate to atmosphere. Angled cut for helping prevent some racing debris from getting into it.
Also with plenty of clearance for the cycling of the suspension. That tubing BTW, was scrap OEM exhaust tubing off of my '97 BMW E36. 1-7/8". Gave that truck a little Euro class.

Last I heard, it was off to get some suspension work done, among other things to prep for an upcoming race.

@JustDSM was the wizard behind the tuning. If he feels, he can share his thoughts on the tuning and performance. I heard it ran pretty dang well.

It was really fun being a part of that build.

Got to do a little tinkering on the Class7 desert Hopper this weekend. Swapped out the spark plugs, and a Subi MAF, to have a little more MAF range. Also got to do a little test drive around, and feel out the turbo's response. It performs like OEM response, but with a 600 hp rated turbo. Freaking nice! Very happy with that.

Prior to the owner picking up the truck, I had spray painted the turbine housing with Seymour 316 stainless paint. I was very surprised to see how it held up to the heat. Turned copper. Very interesting. As opposed to the rust developing near the oil feed port.



The angled dump tube was doing it intended job, keeping mud and debris out.



New Subi MAF in, was able to capture some critical data for @JustDSM to be able to finalize the tune. This MAF sensor has been discussed in the HP Tuner thread. As well as the ProCharger thread.

The one which was on the truck prior to tuning, was reading -40°. So data was a wee inaccurate.



Closed loop, STFT's, and air temp all reading, the truck was running really well. Even considering that the tune still needs some refinement. Testament to JustDSM's skills.

It was great to see how quickly the turbo spooled. Exactly what I was aiming for when I built this kit.

Not much to update on the truck as of right now. Other projects and fun going on. I am documenting this here, to have it saved though.

Ordered a SPAL electric fan for the E36 Bimmer. Had a Mishimoto electric fan kit installed. It was not cooling as well as I wanted. Might be due to the radiator it was used with, as there was a large gap between the fan and the radiator. Regardless, I ordered the SPAL, and went to work mounting it.

It was thicker or taller, than the Mishimoto fan. That required me to either purchase a different mounting bracket system, or modify the Mishimoto one. I chose to mod. In doing so, it also brought the fan much closer to the radiator.

Used an 8mm stainless rod, to space it closer.



In other news, having some 2tr-fe header flanges being machined, in order to start making a few 2TR turbo headers.

 

Just wanting ur advise. I’m thinking I need to t56 swap my truck. Get a t56 magnum brand new. Make it more enjoyable. And make it more sporty. Probly way faster also. Then I’m thinking I’ll need to re gear the rear ended at some point. Dunno if I want 4:10 or not. Or something like 3:73. And then maybe eventually do a single turbo kit down the road and make some real power. Seeing how you’ve done it all. What do you think?
