Looks like your only option then is a custom made leaf pack to support the weight but lower the height. Maybe go SUA to be safe, maybe even a shock relocate so you can mount em higher, and sit the chassis lower

Lol jk. Yeah it'd still be a hassle, so i get it. Also totally understand it being too close for comfort if it's that close lol. I won't even pull into parking garages that look like they might be too close if the height maximum isn't well over my truck total height.

LOL yeah, you're 100% correct that it could be done, it would work. I'm just at the point that I'm over all the extra leg work. I'm in the position now to dictate if that' necessary moving forward. Trying to look out for future me and eliminate the hassle while I have the chance.

Definitely get it. convenience is key haha

an idea just popped into my head to get this accomplished and ALSO win a darwin award. Use some ratchet straps to hook the frame to the axle and compress that bad boy down!

I'm still not ready to give up on the CVT though (can you guys tell I'll overthink something to death?)

In this video, at 0:49, you can see the tent mounted to the Prinsu bars using the feet, which will add an inch.

However, in the same video at 0:57, the tent rails are sitting right on the rack rails. I thought the tent rails ran left to right, they actually run front to back. So in that case, with the tent rails perpendicular to the rack rails, I should be able to bolt the tent right to the Prinsu, without the feet just by using a bracket between two bolts that go directly under the rail. Which is also how I currently have my CVT mounted to the rails in order to lower the profile as much as possible. There's also the option of drilling directly through the rail in the rack. This wouldn't be possible if they were parallel, but since they're not there might be hope after all.

If the pic attached is what you mean by mounting without feet, then yeah that's certainly possible. that's how mine is mounted to my bedrack with squared rails, not rounded.

You can also reconfigure most tents and their rails, depending how you want the tent oriented or how you want to mount it to the rack.

tbh until looking at your timestampe in the video I had no idea that RTT's were mounted that way at all lol.

EDIT: brain fart. that modularity is probably only applicable to softshells with a square profile when folded. probably not hardshells like you're looking at

forget i said anything. but yeah, you can definitely mount direct to the crossbars based on that video

Get all you can...if you need just a bit more get to work on trimming the header some.
I can’t remember the old saying, but something like the legs aren’t to long it’s the ears.

DA Ninja / Roofnest Falcon / CVT Mt Hood all made in same factory side by side. Same tent different company so with this one I suggest whoever gets you the most money off.

I am waiting on a 100% confirmation UL’s are here currently. Says there should be 3 on the ground in the warehouse.

That's about what I figured. In that case though CVT still offers the double channel option while the others don't.

Also, do you know the accurate weight on the DA UL? Is it 107 or 140 pounds? I'm assuming the 140 is the shipping weight but just want to double check.

I really like www.terrapod.com rtt at 5.25" closed and about 120 lbs. Less weight up top is a big plus for offroading IMO. This is what I would get if I didn't already bought the GFC Superlite.

Wow I really like that actually. It definitely seems like it holds a lot of promise. Seems like there is so much more competition in the market which is only driving improvement.

It originally started off in the T4R forums by a engineer Kickstarter project. I believe he has the lightest and thinnest hardshell rtt I'm aware of. I was hoping for it to be cheaper but you get what you pay for here.

So I think I'm pretty much set on the CVT, even if I don't clear the garage. @EatSleepTacos is right, having the ability to store bedding up there is going to be paramount. If I don't clear the garage I'm no worse off than I am now with my softshell.

The question now becomes to go for the 50" or the 56"? The 56" is really where I want to be, but I'm afraid it will look dopey being so wide, since the rack itself is only 47.25" wide. Plus, the Exped options are 41" and 52" wide. The 52" Exped will fit the 56" tent perfect, but the 41" Exped would waste already small space of the 50" tent. When I was looking at options like the roofnest, it was 50" or 60" and 60" would be too big for sure. But that 56" width is right in that sweet spot where it could go either way.

Here's a thread with the 56" on a second gen, and I don't think it looks that bad.

I wonder if you could squeeze a 52" exped into the 50" tent.

I agree that the 56" doesn't look bad but think about it from a wheeling aspect. It's going to be incredibly easy to ram that thing into trees while even a little off camber. It would be a huge hindrance. If you're wanting your truck to do it all, you'll probably want to compromise and go with the 50" tent.

Yeah I think you're right. I think the extra width would be a huge hindrance on trails.

    Yeah.
The inside dimensions are about 3" narrower than outside, so I wouldn't try squeezing the 52" exped into the 50" tent. The 41" exped would leave you 3" on either side of the 50" tent. That's not too bad, you don't really sleep that close to the side.

That's not too bad then, assuming there's not going to be anyone else in the tent with him. Otherwise, that's basically trying to squeeze two people onto a twin mattress (those are 39" wide)

    Yeah.
No doubt. I'm a side sleeper that occasionally does the running man, and I always have my dog with me (wife and daughters are not campers). The 52" is perfect for us, and I wouldn't want another human in there with me. We could make the 41" work, but I like having the room.

Yeah the 50" tent is 47" wide inside.

Yeah no way is that going to work haha Too tight.
