    Hey everyone,

About to trade my 15 4R in while the values are crazy.

I have a friend who is a dealer looking for a GX470 for me at the auctions and I have a few Qs:

    • Do they all have the rear air bags?
    • 2007-2008 are the years I should be shooting for correct?
    • Any other tips?

Depends if you want vvti or not
Find one without nav and check maintenance history

test drive before you buy. They are smaller than you think and if you are tall the seating position sucks ass. Gas pedal is in a wierd spot and angle

Zero issues with my Callahan GX460 kit on the front of my 470. Time for me to replace the O2 sensors, CV axles, and I might as well replace the spark plugs while I'm at it (231k on odometer)

    Who likes what plugs?

Generally, avoid blizzard pearl due to hit or miss issues with paint peel (certain 08-09 MY covered for repaint).

Shoot for non-nav. Nav equipped vehicles limit your stereo install. Plus the HVAC controls in the nav equipped are integrated to the touch screen which is the biggest failure of modern car interior design IMO.

Purely observational but I’ve seen more 03-04 with brake booster failure than 05+. The part did slightly change at the 05 MY which may be partially involved in that.

Most people who have driven vvti vs non-vvti don’t notice that much of a difference. I have a non-vvti V8 4Runner and can’t tell. Non-vvti means you get to skip screwing with emissions pump bypass.

Be patient, but ready to jump all over the right one. Make sure it checks all your boxes. If I had to do it all over again, I would have probably bought a different one that I did. Don't get me wrong, I've got mine close to where I want it. I wanted gray interior, non-nav, and 3rd row. Sport would have been a bonus. I got gray interior (with all the woodgrain to build a bonfire), non-nav, and non 3rd row. Also, get pics of the frame until you're satisfied with it. Rust can be an issue on these.

6’3” and no problem with seating position. Much better than 4th gen 4runner.

my right leg is bent in an awkward way and make my hip hurt after a while. Some new Scheel-Mann seats will cure that...:anonymous:

Seems about average price for current market. The other listed bullets are a plus. Water pump done too right? If radiator wasn’t replaced I’d check it over real good for leaks. They go out like clockwork somewhere around 100k miles mark.

I'm on the fence about whether to buy a 6-7k one at auction (have a dealer friend in FL) or find a nice one and pay extra.

Are they routinely going for 6-7k in southeast auctions? I know I’d seen a few people elsewhere post up some auction prices and they didn’t look like much in the way of savings unless it was a high 200k+ mileage vehicle.

that one looks clean and the price is reasonable (or at least in line with the current market) - if the dealer is asking 15k, see if you can get them down to 13 or 13.5. that would be a nice deal. lift being done already and timing belt are too big expenses out of the way.

3 Sold yesterday in Ft. Lauderdale for around that. 160-220K. Not a popular car in FL as people don't care about 4WD.

They have it up for 16,999 and I offered $14. He came back at 15. I think he would do 14 if I told him I was coming tomorrow.

I think if you could get it for 14 that wouldn’t be a bad buy. Especially with a decent lift kit and whatnot already done. No “covid wait” on parts.

Turning into quite the busy day wrenching on Saturday.... Plugs, coils, cv's & O2 sensors. Sanded down my headlights and cleaned them up a bit for now. I'll order some depo sports or OEM sports in a few months.
