Furthermore, I'd be wary if this kit has the same JMS voltage booster referenced here. There was a guy in the 3GT page on Facebook who installed a Procharger in February or March and mentioned that the Procharger kit came with the booster. I asked OVTune about it in the OV FI thread and received the following response, which may be something you (OP) and others may want to give consideration to since you (OP) are in Florida, close to or at sea level. Unless of course the tune is limiting max throttle high up in the rpm band to counter misfire due to running out of fuel.

Odd how there isn't more buzz about any of the superchargers available

OP thanks for going out on a limb and getting this done. Looking forward to seeing if you can get it on boost sooner. Right now i think ill just save my money since all the solutions seem to be long lead times or poorly developed tunes.

Seems like Magnuson has no problems selling theirs.

I think they're doing well by letting their name sell units for them, even though general consensus is that the tune is subpar, especially if you were n/a tuned prior to install

The Maggie is expensive but it puts out a lot of torque from 0 RPM. Which is exactly what you want in a truck. Then HPTuners to the rescue.

Yeah. They really are the only option right now though. Nobody else can you easily just pull up a webpage and :spending: I would have rather ran a set of the OV twins but I'm impatient. The one local tuner who I would have trusted to write a better file for my truck recently passed away so now I'm going to wait and see if either Magnuson builds a tune with better shifting or if someone else does I will gladly pay for the software.

The Mag-charger uses a TVS1900 which is absolutely a great unit for the 3.5L. Even oversized a bit, which will allow for easy upgrading for higher boost/power applications. It's just the provided tune that needs improvement.

There's a guy in Sedona, AZ who got his independently tuned and said the custom tune is way better than Magnuson's tune

All three HP+ options (tt, magi, pro) seem to have their own issues. I have been wanting to pull the trigger on something, but none of it looks dialed yet. I am not a tuner and it needs to work right without a PhD in tuning or a million hours to wrench.

It's recently been confirmed that if you want to use vF for a custom tune, the Pro upgrade is needed for access to some extra FI tables.

There's a tuner local to me (here in El Paso) who is willing to help out with developing a superior tune using either unedited OVTune 2.0 or Coyoza tune as a foundation to work from, but he still does need to see the vF tables and I'd need to upgrade to Pro vF and we'd need a truck with the sc...

I do really love my OVT turbos. My Ecoboost lol it's great. Power comes on smooth, low, predictably, really great to drive

For me the Magi was the only real option. Ov's TT kit is close but you can't just buy it at this point. The trans shift is no better/worse than the oem TSB 04b33 file but there is def room for improvement. If you weren't on the forum and heard how killer the Kruiser 4.0, KDmaxxxx 6.0 and other files are you would probably be just fine with the magnuson kit as is. I've had belt driven turbo's before and I don't think it really helps the Tacoma for my expected use (fun DD and towing a small camp trailer). I did the blower before gears as I wanted to see how much better it was increasing power in 3rd and 4th gear before I start bumping the rpm's.

I've talked to him here and there in the "AZ Tacomas (Arizona)" and "3GT - 3rd Generation Tacoma" Facebook groups. His name is John Duff James, you can reach out to him or reply to one of his comments if you'd like.

As for the tuner, he said he had it "custom tuned on a rolling road by DynoComp in Scottsdale. Richard Garcia is an engineer and one of the best performance tuners around."

I've got a trailer ordered from Valiant Expedition and with how well my TT kit is driving, I'm personally really looking forward to getting the trailer and towing. Fully loaded up I'm anticipating around 2k lbs, so I doubt I'll hardly feel it back there

I towed about 3500# trailer and stuff in my bed. Only really felt when taking off on hills and braking, I’m sure you won’t feel it at all. I’m on premium SFOB.

I wouldn’t tow more than that with my manual though. Where I live it’s very hilly and taking off even on a slightest hill just kills the clutch. Thankfully I have the 2WD low mod for low speed maneuvering.

This all seems rather moot with Toyota releasing a 3.5 Twin Turbo. Can eventually just buy the OEM TT kit. Their new engine is putting out about 410hp/480lbft

Likely quite some time however after their 3.5TT launches with the tundra that (1) kits using it would be readily available and (2) the parts would be obtainable at reasonable prices.

I'm hoping they get more out of it before launch as it puts it on par with the Ford 3.5 Eco, I want Toyota to do better.

I think you may be able to use some of the OEM 3.5TT parts when doing a TT setup on a Tacoma but I doubt the motor will ever find it's way into a Tacoma from the factory.

Word on the street is that the next gen Tacoma will be a turbo-4 anyway, so that checks out
