You'll need to contact them and tell them you want to log all the channels. I keep hoping they will release this ability in the beta version but as it stands- it's only available in the alpha beta releases. After harassing them about it- they sent me an email with an alpha beta version that allowed me to log everything I want.

how does this compare to the V14 spicy tune.. =)

is there an easy way to determine the CFM range the truck is at. I am setup with a Snorkel and plan on upgrading my pre-cleaner and seeing if the current setup has me pushed past a max 275 CFM. The next one pushes up to 350 CFM.

Multiply the flow rate by 4 to convert it to quarts per second. If, for instance, you are converting a flow of 5 g/s -- 5 × 4 = 20 quarts per second (qt/s).

    Multiply this result by 60 to convert it to quarts per minute -- 20 × 60 = 1,200 qt/min.

Divide this result by 29.92 to convert it to cubic feet per minute -- 1,200 ÷ 29.92 = 40.1 CFM.

    OR

Just change the units on the channels list to report CFM instead of g/sec. :)

The spicy tunes are a different batch from the standard V1-15. Think we only got up to spicy3 or 4 before it dialed things in.

But I have actually had this on my mind since getting the truck back together a few weeks ago.

@nd4spdbh would the trans AI still learn and soften up shifts to the spicy tune after some casual driving? Shifts have seemed soft the last few times I drove it and this is with even spicier gearing now. Not sure if I need to re-flash to get it back to being extra spicy. Was gonna text you yesterday but forgot

Also @nd4spdbh have we talked about a manual auto trans tune? Like tell it to never shift unless the gear lever is moved from L-2-3-4-D? The more and more I think about it, something like that may be what is best for me considering I manual shift it 90% of the time when off road anyways

Two complete different forks of trans tunes, there was never a v14 "spicy" tune, just a standard v14 which has been superseded with v15. Spicy trans tunes were v1 v2 and v3, v1 being taken down after i realized a problem with it, so Spicy V2 and V3 are the only current spicy tunes.

Trains AI really only plays with shift points not necessarily shift firmness. It seems as if the torque tables have caused the most change in shift firmness (and unexpected shift behavior) next being the line pressure changes though they dont do terribly much as they were already close to max.

You shifts likely feel softer due to the change in gearing putting less load on the motor and likely less throttle input needed.

The gear selector itself by nature limits how far you can shift up, I could potentially setup a trans tune that would make downshifts occur at such a low vehicle speed so you wouldnt downshift once you got into the throttle. That MIGHT work for a "manual" setup.

Interesting. Yeah I figured the new gearing would make things feel more aggressive but that makes sense. If you get bored and feel like messing with a “manual” tune then go for it. You should still have my last tune file somewhere. This whole race truck thing is tricky when I sometimes accidentally find myself on pavement between dirt

Edit: But how would that do with limiting upshifts? I guess if I only have it in 3 it’ll never shift above 3rd.

Yeah so limiting upshifts is already in place by the shifter itself. Downshifts would have to be lowered significantly to make it to where you can bury the pedal in any gear and it wouldnt downshift. The ONLY thing that i dont know how it will act is in that situation where you did want to downshift will moving the shifter back down still work and force the downshift. Email me your latest tune and i can give it a go.

Sounds good. I’ll shoot it over later today when I get home and we can give it a try

ah got it. I have either v2 or v3 installed from @JustDSM right now and have had it for a few months now. Nice combo with the shift kit.

haha OR thank you. ill have to check my peak g/s and see where it sits. I think it was around 275-280 at the moment but will go up once I drop the pulley and open up some flow.

Anyone know if there's a way to tune a 4th gen 4runner with a 1gr with HP Tuners? Anyone tried?

I sold my tuned Tacoma and am looking at a 4runner and wasn't sure. I think it's been brought up here before but I really can't remember?

I don't think HPT has defined the 4Runner specific Calibration ID's, however I suspect you could drop in a Tacoma ECU and do your business that way. That said, I'd need to confirm the pinouts but i don't suspect there's much of anything different. If anyone has the factory 4th Gen 4Runner ECU wiring schematic I'll gladly do the comparison and give a solid confirmation on whether or not the project would be do-able.

@nd4spdbh if I send you my current tune, do you think you would be able to thro v15 in for me?

On the 4Runner note, have you done more 5th gens? I know my wife’s was an early one and they didn’t have knock sensors and a few other things available yet so there wasn’t much we could do. But if they’re more supported now then I’d love to try and get some updated logs and what not in the next week or so to get a more thorough tune for it

That was my original thought too, was if we couldn't drop in a Tacoma ECU.

Buttttt what might throw the wrench here (maybe?) is the 4th gen I'm looking at is the Limited trim with AWD/center locking diff. I don't know if that'll have any electronic inputs into the trans logic/ecu. If I end up getting one I'll do a deep dive and let y'all know what I find out.

I have not sadly. Download the latest beta 4.9.10xx (IIRC) and see if there are any additional PIDs. Remember to "repoll for supported parameters" once you're connected. Feel free to screen shot the available ones and we can go from there.

Did you ever send in a ticket to have the Toyota Enhanced PIDs added? Something tells me we did.. Did anything come of that?

Yeah we did and nothing came of it. They basically said those PID’s weren’t supported yet. But it’s been a year so maybe there’s been some more development. Ben is gonna help me do silly things to get my trans to act more like a manual in the next week or so so when I update to the latest beta I’ll poll the 4Runner again and send you a screen shot to see.
