I have a used mirror riser coming in the mail in the next day or so. I think I read somewhere about a windshield cracking? Not sure, but has anyone seen or read about this issue. I realize that there is very little weight on this lever.

Just asking as I was thinking about it. I like the ability to return it to stock instead of gluing a new block on it.

Windshields can crack from the installation of the new risers because you have to drill into the windshield to install the hanging bracket.

Now... I know thats the case with the aftermarket risers. It sounds like you are going from aftermarket back to stock.

What brand riser are you taking off?

A friend and I have both run ImMrYo Rear-View Mirror Lift Brackets for nearly two years with NO problems. (Mine supports an upgraded mirror with a radar detector mounted underneath it.)

As long as you exercise common sense (don't over-stress the mount when adjusting the mirror or mounting something to it) you shouldn't have any problems.

Easy cowboy, it's the riser that bird dawg sells. Slips on the existing block, I'm concerned about the lever of that riser pulling down on that block with the mirror bouncing around.
I've replaced blocks before and never had to drill into the glass. I can tell you that if that is require (drilling) I will look for an alternate attachment point (not the case on this one).

This is the feedback I was looking for. It's the Bird Dawg riser I believe. (not sure on the spelling).

I've run it for years with zero issues. This is bolt on, no drilling or permanent modification required. The OEM mirror has 2 pivot points, one at the windshield and the other at the mirror. The cracking issue was supposedly if you were attempting to adjust the windshield pivot point by manipulating the mirror, due to the increased lever arm the riser was providing. Instead, adjust the mirrors windshield pivot (which sets the height of the mirror) by supporting the base with one hand or manipulating the arm instead of the mirror. Once the height is set I haven't changed it. Manipulating the mirror itself for different drivers or viewing positions is not an issue as that is just rotating the easier outer adjuster ball.

I've taken my truck off road over harsh terrain jarring the truck with a GoPro mounted to the riser and it wasn't an issue. The mirror alone will not cause any problems.

The mirror riser pairs nicely with a 1" seat lift to provide a more upright truck like seating position and better overhood visibility:

A few mods here and there and counting....
One piece of advice I can give you, put a piece of 3m mounting tape at the top of the mount where it touches the windshield to evenly disperse the weight. I run the bird dawg riser, granted I have a manual dimming mirror but its cheap insurance.

Hey ~ crashnburn80, I see you installed the birddawg rearview mirror riser ,was that on the
2015 ? I have a 2015 an recently received the 'rmr' and I was wondering about the cover on the
mirror base. The directions say pop it off with a pry tool. My cover looks like it has a screw. Did
you loosen that before prying off the cap? Didn't want to damage anything so thought I'd ask.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

It was on my 2015, but it was so long ago I do not recall, and I’ve since sold the truck. A screw does not ring a bell, if there is a screw, there would be no harm in removing it for the removal though.
