Infinity Crossover Box Wired opposite Polarity

I have Infinity REF-9630cx component speakers I am installing in my Tacoma. My question is this…when connecting the factory speaker wires coming from inside the dash all the way to the door…on the crossover box would I damage anything if I put the negative speaker wire into the positive input slot and the positive speaker wire into the negative input slot on the crossover box?
I am only asking because for some reason when I did my first installation I only had the back speakers playing…so I ended up having to use the wires meant to go to the stock tweeters as the wire intended for the door speaker had no power at all…these had a harness though and I used everything correctly…unless Toyota has incorrect color codes. Green is supposed to be positive and blue is negative…but the door wire has a clip that connects to the wires for the tweeters as well. Why is the wire meant for the tweeters only work and not the attached wires for the door speakers? They are all part of the same route?

Did I perhaps use the wrong polarity on the crossover and not realize it?

If they are backwards or reversed, you will hear it in the sound. You will not get much mid bass at all. To fix it just swap it at the speaker or crossover, whichever is easiest to get to. You only have to swap onside to match the other side

 

Actually I found out what happened…for some reason the Toyota factory installation has the tweeters actually feeding to the original 6x9’s. The door plug with the same wires only goes from the original speaker to the tweeter clamp which housed both those and the other 2 to the same tweeter…unplugging the tweeter now the door plug the 6x9 are just the same kind of wires that are completely unattached from the factory harness that is in the dashboard.

That would explain why I had no sound at all not even static…I was using dead wires to the crossover…I’m now using the correct ones and now just need to go pick up some more speaker cable to complete the other side.

So far only having one side the 6X9 has tons of power. I cannot wait to finish the install then start adjusting the gain levels and eq’ing.

Now I just need a decent Subwoofer and in my ‘05 Tacoma access cab and I am leaning towards the Rockford 500p-12p

Someone here has an Audiofrog gb10d2 I may pickup instead.
Any suggestions on a decent subwoofer? Would that Audiofrog gb10d2 supplied with a D’More Engineering E1000.1 amp be a better hard hitting sub compared to the Rockford 500-12p?

The hard part with a sub in these trucks is enclosure space. I didn’t notice if you have a regular cab, access cab, or double cab, but which model and how much space you’re willing to lose need to be figured out before picking components.

For example, I have a double cab, and I have a 9 year old in back, and I use a lot of the storage space. I have to make due with an 8” sub in a sealed box because that’s all the space I can live without, and that 8” fits the space better than too big a sub in too small a box.

 

What does your volt meter read?

 

I have a 2005 Tacoma access cab and after measuring I have plenty of space to work back there and the Rockford 500 12p will fit perfectly back there.

 

How does that 8” sound? What type 8 are you running and how much power to it

 

I don’t have an 8 actually no subwoofer at all. This is the stock ‘05 Tacoma Access Cab non jbl.

 

Not installed yet. Sundown SD4 8” , dual 2 ohm coils. Going on a Kicker Key 500.1 wired to 1 ohm. 500 watts going to make it beat or send it to the moon.

I’m in line for a Mr. Marv box. First time I’ve ever not built my own enclosure but his work is so clean I couldn’t resist. Going to lay a stain and urethane it before it goes in.

 

Nice, really nice guy, ive talked to him a few times. Im thinking about adding a CompRT 8" into a stock OEM box that i found and run it off a JL or Audio Control powering everything.

 

Definitely a cool guy. I had mixed feelings subbing out the enclosure build to someone else cause I enjoy the process, but I’m already so busy with work, family, and a podcast it tilted me that direction.

And his work is nicer than anything I can do. My enclosures are built like tanks, but not as pretty as what he can do.
