    Hi all,

Have a new 2021 and have noticed intermittent ringing sound when accelerating - especially up a steep hill. It sounds like an old fashioned ringing telephone, but only lasts for a second or two. Probably nothing, but.... Anybody heard similar? Never heard it on my 2018, but the 2021 seems to be better at not hunting for gears when you start moving, almost like my 2018 was in ECM mode. So maybe it's normal at the higher RPMs?

Any video of the sound? Without it we may not know whether to recommend a mechanic, doctor or exorcist!

No, I've only had it a week, and heard it maybe 3 or 4 times. Not sure how well it would record, the first time I heard it I wasn't even sure it wasn't the radio or something. I'll try to see if I can reliably reproduce it.

Engine knock? Try 91 and see if it goes away?

I agree probably engine knocking. Sometimes called pinging as well as that is what it can sound like

Interesting, I've usually heard that as more knocking, but it's been quite a while since I had one that did. Probably since carburetor days. Probably sounds different with fuel injection? We'll see. Still on my first tank of gas, from the dealer.

unless you got some really crappy gas these engines should not have any pre-ignition knock.

I have a sound under acceleration that I think is the planetary gears in the tranny. Usually 4th gear. Just a moment as I wind through about 3k rpm. Not worried about it.
This doesn’t sound like diff whine.

Some of these 3.5s have pre ignition knock. The manual even states “87 or higher”.

Maybe try 91 once the dealers fill runs out and see if there is any difference. All my Japanese vehicles ran better on 91 or higher. I’ve always used 91E0 in my truck since it was new, runs great.

Try turning off the a/c and see if it goes away.
