2004 Tacoma O2 Simulator question

    I have an 04 Tacoma 4wd 3.4 V6. I just purchased it and it is throwing a Catalytic converter code. I took it to an exhaust shop and they informed me there are no cats on the truck. I had them install a Flowmaster so the truck would sound better but the check engine light is driving me nuts.

    My question is will an O2 simulator work without the cats to get rid of the check engine light? (There is an O2 sensor on the pipe.)

    Replace the Catalytic Converters.
    Running without them is a Felony.
