Glad to hear you're feeling better, man...when the body isn't right, nothing is right!

There are a ton of easy trails south of I-8 in the Table Top Wilderness/Maricopa Peak area...

Hey all, recently moved out to Tucson with my '18 DCLB! Looking to get out in the dirt this weekend (despite the high likelihood of massive crowds), was thinking reddington pass area based on some info from a co-worker. Any suggestions for some fun trails to hit up and maybe get into some basic crawling stuff? Just got the truck about a month and a half ago before I moved, dealer put it up on a 3" lift w/ 285s so I figure it'd be good to see what it can do.
If anyone is planning to go out and bounce around and wouldn't mind a complete new guy tagging along I'd love that as well!

My girl’s family is in Phoenix from Chicago and she wants to take them to “The Crack” in Sedona on Monday.

    1. Any recommendations for a quick trail near there?
    2. How screwed am I, as far as Memorial Day crowds go?

You may catch some hell for the dealer installed 3" lift... most of those are spacer lifts which TL;DR are lousy imitations of a real serious suspension setup (but far cheaper). Think of it like a guy putting on stilts and claiming he's taller than an actual tall dude. But as long as you're happy with it, you do you. The downside is the ride quality likely suffers a lot, but it will clear the tires for you.

Can't speak to trails out in Tucson, most of the regular posters on here are Phoenix based I think.

Right now I have no idea what the weekend holds for me! I think there's a chance I might do the sat targets tomorrow, or sleep in, or who knows. All I know is I am going to avoid crowds like the plague. I'm not worried about the 'vid anymore because I got my shots... I just hate crowds and I know people are gonna be out in force because we've all been cooped up so long.

@Nitori Upon further inspection you are probably correct. The shocks are yellow bilsteins which I’m told are stock shocks so that’s less than great. Going to have to fix that ASAP.

ADS / Radflo - boutique shock builders

King / Fox - large boutique shock builders, pretty much commercial. If you want custom, call Accutune Offroad or Down South Motorsports

    Bilstein - Budget but quality

Reddington is a good choice, lots of stuff out there to try out. I honestly haven't been out there in a very long time...like since 3 wheel atv days. My tacoma isn't quite ready to play yet. Usually there's folks out there weekends, you should be able to team up with some of them.

The trail that goes along the Estrella mountains is pretty easy and pretty fun. Technically you can take it and pop out in Goodyear, but it's kind of a nightmare. I'd follow it to the Quartz Peak trailhead (awesome hike btw) then turn around.

@Atl-atl looks good! What slide/stove is that? We've got our Dometic cf80 on a Tortuga XL slide that has a secondary slide out table big enough for our partner steel Stove. But once the rear bumper goes on the stove will be placed on one of the SwingOut tables. But I like that one as a back up down the road maybe.

    Also..

    These are mine now.. lol

    Thanks again @65skyturbo

    Chop chop tomorrow.

Summit Dakars. Wanted a specific offset. These are -25mm. 4" Backspacing. Might send them off to Powdercoat though when I do my rear bumper.

    Bumped!
So now that I've ended up in an SR5 almost-premium (has all the premium bits & options I wanted except the softex which I am fine with) I'm wondering if the silver trim on the '21 is different, because it seems pretty solid to me but then again there is less than 100 miles on the odometer as of right now.

The only other trim I saw was the fake carbon fiber which bugged me for 2 reasons- fake carbon fiber always rubs me the wrong way and second it's like almost piano black trim that shows every single fingerprint and smudge ever which would drive me absolutely apeshit. Is there a matte black trim option out there?

Good to know! We’ll have to chat more about them, suspension just became priority number 1.

So take my advice with a bit of a grain of salt because the vast majority of my previous experience was on European sports cars, autocross racing, and so on, and it kinda shows (showed?) when you looked at my Tacoma. Sway bar-less and tail happy as all hell but predictable and controllable. Would've rocked shit at an all-Tacoma track day but not well suited for the "serious" trails. (aside from the fact that it was only RWD... :anonymous:)

You'll want to have an idea of what exactly you want out of your suspension before you just go throwing money at it. First off is gonna be defining how much weight you intend to put on it. If you're gonna get armor and roof top tents and all manner of stuff on there you're going to have to use stiffer springs than if you weren't. Generally speaking softer springs is better, but there are tradeoffs and heavy vehicles need stiff springs. Second thing to nail down is if you want to go extended travel. More travel means more capability, but it opens pandora's box of "now you need to buy X to account for Y" where suddenly what you thought was going to be just coilovers up front is now coilovers, control arms, brake lines, and driveshafts to account for the wider array of angles & droop you're putting components at.

After sorting those bullet points it gets a lot easier to make your choices, IMO.

I've never heard a bad thing about ADS but AccuTune absolutely knocked it out of the park on the valving for my 2.5 Foxes.

Also I will never not shill for Archive garage's hammer hangers, I'd say it's a must do on pretty much any aftermarket modded Tacoma. The TL;DR is your rear leaf springs have mounts (the rear mounts) that flex too much and installing gusseted custom fabbed ones is a colossal pain in the ballsack but 100% worth it.

    One side done.

Took 2.5" off the sheet metal. And 2" off the flare and took some time making it clean. Edge trim should be here today. Going to spray it all with undercoating when I'm done too.
