    While it's free, I have time, and it's under warranty, the dealer can do it. I did my own oil change at 5500 miles prior to a long road trip, so I'm happy that I know how to do the basics on this frame. But while it can be Toyota's problem and it's not that big a hassle to me, I'll let it keep being their problem.

    If you do have the dealer do it, check to make sure they actually change the oil filter. It should look like it was wiped down and cleaned - no road dust on it. It has been documented here a number of times that a few dealers bypass the filter change.

    WE let Toyota do it at one year anniversary with 4k miles, oil change, tire rotation and the usual. I thought Toyota was 10k mile oil changes but our service rep. said 5k or 1 year whatever came 1st.
    She goes back in at 9k

    X2. When i was scheduled for my 1st service visit, i had just short of 5k miles. They rotated the tires, and only replaced the oil...no filter changed, claiming i didn't have 10k miles yet. At any rate i recently had my next visit 6 months later still way short of that 10k mile service interval, they did rotate the tires, change the oil again....this time the filter to.

    Because for those who are not fortunate enough to have competent dealer service departments the "free" maintenance ends up being anything except "free" after paying for what careless techs screw up.

    My 2021 doesn't have a single zerk. I went crazy, four jack stands so I could rotate tires looking at the U joints. Not a single zerk. Damn.

    Do my own wheel rotation, tighten 113 N·m {1152 kgf·cm, 83 ft·lbf}

    Another OCD owner.

    My 3rd Gen ('18 TRD Sport, 25,000 miles) has been trouble-free and has never been back to the dealer either in 3 years.

    I am on the fence. Hate to leave money on the table, but when I took my '19 TRD OR in for a "free" oil change, I found later that the lube monkey had stripped the bolts that attach the skid plate. Kinda pissed me off. Fortunately the drain plug was ok, but I was anxious until I did the next oil change (myself). That's when I discovered the "tech" had left off the smaller O-ring from the filter canister...

    I use to be the same, but we now have very good dealers in my area...some imo are too much by the manual with toyota, but all in all seem to do very good work. Really can't find any fault with my last visit. I'll trust them to continue.

    I chose to do my own. I do them on all my other cars and motorcycles. My Taco is the only vehicle I own which is under warranty, so I keep the receipts for the oil and filters I buy for it. For me it’s a time issue; I don’t want to waste time at a dealership. I’ve done one oil change on my Taco, I think it took me 45 minutes.

    In my area going to my local dealership on a Saturday, even with an appointment would take longer than 45 minutes. Personally I’m generally only home one weekend a month and I have other ways I’d rather spend my free time other then sitting at a dealership. When I’m home I’m generally in my garage working on stuff more than I am in my house. I keep oil and filters on hand and just do them when they’re due and I have the time.

    Just bring it in. There are things that you (or any other people that are working on your vehicle) may miss, and the Toyota technicians may find during the standard multi-point inspection that can possibly be taken cared of under factory warranty while the warranty is still current/active.
