Awesome, we’re planning a trip soon, I’ll be sure and take that path the next time we roll up there either this year or next. The drive wasn’t the greatest on the 5. Also might hit the Dusy this year since I haven’t been.

Did you do a drain and fill every 60k as Toyota recommends ?

I don't think the Tow Package Trans Cooler has fluid actively passing through it until the thermostat opens - then the fluid flows through it (and your TruCool) and back into the transmission. Until then the transmission cooler has no affect. Pin the thermostat during warm weather season / tow season and remove the pin during winter / non-tow season. This is what I do - I have a Hayden. Temps pinned not towing are 180's - towing are around 210 when under max condition.

    Awesome!

That powertrain combo seems to be unbreakable.

If I'm being honest, it's lucky if it gets an oil change every 25k. I don't think it's ever had a fluid change.

Well at almost 400k that's impressive. I'd still do a drain and fill but certainly not a flush, if you plan to have it last for another 400k.

Is your transmission without abnormally shitty behavior? No shudders, slipping, etc.

Just did a 1400 mile round trip from Bristol VA to CT (and back) using I81-I84 corridor. The only time torque conv went 227 was climbing some of the steeper hills in PA and NY with outside temps of around 85. As soon as things evened out, temp dropped to 190's and was the average temp for duration of the trip.

Not hauling anything or loaded down with stock suspension and tires. I have to say, absolutely no gear hunting or other shenanigans prior years reported. Definitely like driving a brick with a headwind at times but it can keep up if you push it.

Again, average pan temp was 190 and TC got up to 227 going 70mph in 5th up a gear for maybe a few mins. You could actually see the rapid temp drop when thermostat opened and load leveled out.

Negative. Bone stock and started the trip with 5100 miles on the clock. This was the longest highway trip this truck had up till now so I was honestly dreading gear hunting (to some extent) and horrible suspension but had none of it. 26h round trip and it drove great. Not Mercedes quiet or fast but no slouch either.

Because I had nothing better to do, I looked at various pids from my scangauge. Nothing got crazy high but TC jumped up pretty quickly and steadily on climbs. It rained on the returned trip and was much cooler so temps stayed mostly below 200 even on climbs.

Not a 3rd gen but my experience using an ultra gauge, putting the tranny in “4” the torque converter stays locked and no heat is produced.
