For those that have installed y pipes, which is the best option to buy? It must be routed so I can add the flush mount RCI plate over the dif. If my cats are stolen again I'm getting a y pipe. If the y pipe is simply bolt up I may go ahead and install anyway, keep the cats safe for reinstall when I sell the truck one day.

Around here the scrap yards have you on camera and take your ID and things. I’m sure if you take one in they won’t ask any questions. But if your coming in every day or week I’m sure they will know what’s up. If they don’t report it the police eventually will stop by and have a chat with them and ask them to pull their logs and videos.

I think a read some article about the cartels getting involved in it and they had their own recycling operation

Sounds like a good reason to lower your Taco. Perhaps a nice setup where you can drop it onto the frame when parked. Makes loading the bed easier too!

In my county this is happening a lot.
People are encouraged to get their catalytic converters engraved so if they are ever recovered. They can easily identify

Unless they actually punish the thieves, it’s going to get worse.

No jail time, the fines issued are just cost of doing business so they have to steal more cats to cover the fine.

Exactly. I get that the braided blanket ("strap") is hard to cut though but how are a couple of stainless zip ties going to stop anyone?

    I have a Gashole
Seems like it is also held in place by a heat bonding glue. So removal of the straps are not going to allow it to fall off. Just makes for time consuming.

I thought the catalytic converter for the 2.7L is after the transmission's crossmember, so hiding it will be harder.

Dayum, straight up hacked it off. A plate from side to side would be the only thing I can think off that might possibly work to stop theft.

Ye, the 2.7L's cat is further down the exhaust and easily accessible. There is no skidplate that covers that far back, most just stop right at the transfer case

I'm considering getting this one, it looks like it might protect that location because I see frame nearby to wrap the cables around. There might be some cases, especially if you cannot clamp it on right at each end of the cat, where they could cut the pipes and fish it out. If the cables where laced so half went forward a couple holes and half back a couple holes the crossing cables would make getting the cat out of the cage impossible. I also think getting some rubber tube that can slip over the cable might be a good addition to keep it from rattling on the frame. It could be cut to sections, slipped on during installation, and clamped to the cable to keep them in place.

try calling The Weld Shop in garden grove.. when they welded the wing plate to my transmission skid plate, they said they can make one kinda like mine.. if you bring your truck there for them to look at, they can let you know...
