All these TSB's and im waaaaay over the mileage...what to do?

So... At about ummm, 7-9 months into ownership, I fell so in love with this truck, i took it across country, pushing my 1st year mileage to nearly 22K... In my second year, I was out of warranty before 19 months. I have only 4 more lease payments and I go to the bank to buy out the lease... Im at 79K just past the middle of year 4. my 07 has been great, minus the stupid stuff, that I now find ALL had tsbs, but well after I hit the mileage... my tailgate is fuct, I do get the harsh ride when loaded up with crap in the bed... All my mud flaps broke, my hub caps fall off regularly... and there is NO WAY in heck I was letting anyone cut my gas pedal to begin with!!! lol...


So... Im buying this thing out... Im hoping the bank will give me a little extra $$ in the loan so i can get some of these things squared away, like the rear suspension and the tailgate... Anything else I should do?

I really want a newer taco with the 4 door cab, but I cannot afford a down payment right now, and I am soooooo over my mileage, i would be paying my downpayment in damages and mileage overage!!!! So im stuck with this bad boy for now... Options?

First of all why in the world would you lease a truck if you put that many miles on vehicles? That's pretty shortsighted for a lower payment. You kinda hosed yourself there. With what you'll pay for your buyout and interest plus what you've already paid on the lease you could have bought a double cab. But if you don't buy it out you're going to be really hosed. But if you like the truck you may as well just pay for your poor financial choices and enjoy the truck regardless of costs. Back in 98 my girlfriend (now wife) and I both leased new tacomas. I went over a little on my mileage, but not by much. At the end of the lease my dad wanted it so he gave me a check to buy it outright and I bought a used 95.5. He's still driving it. My girlfriend bought hers out too, and we traded it 2 years later on our 4Runner and got hosed. Even after making 2 years of payments on the truck after the lease buyout she was still about 3 grand upside down on it. We haven't had a car payment in 3 years and boy is it nice.

 

Buy the truck, you cant afford to turn it in.

No, the bank isnt going to give you any extra money for buying it

in fact, they will contact your leasing company to verify the payoff balance.

As far as the TSB's, your SOL.

Hopefully you have learned some life long lessons.

 

What's there to complain? You put the truck to good use.

Everything you can buy used, including TRD alloys, at reasonable prices. Craigslist, ebay, B/S/T section of this forum... Here's a used tailgate for $190+$120 shipping

The side benefit is a ECU flash with the latest software that supercedes all the previous ones about problematic shifts, etc.

 

What qualifies the tsb for ecu flash?

 

When you get your pedal trimmed as part of the safety campaign, the dealer also flashes the ECU to implement the brake override feature. The ECU software includes all previous fixes. It is one thing that can still be done for free post-warranty.

 

Oo I see. I know the last time I brought it in for tab, they did the pedal recall.. Is that the same as thhe shortening of the pedal?

Find a used tailgate at a junk yard, save some coin and possibly get same color so no need to paint. Then beef up the tailgate so it doesn't happen again...there's a DIY somewhere. It's not hard and you can take your own approach to make it even easier if you want.

Get an AAL and duplicate the suspension TSB does only better...and it's not very expensive either. Get the TSB shocks by picking up a set of pulls from TW members...always somebody putting on 5100's and selling their old ones used.

The gas pedal is a safety recall, not a TSB, so they will do that anytime. You may not like getting your pedal cut, but they upload the latest engine management program so you get that for free. Something to think about.

And take off the K&N filters. They cause a lot more harm than good, long term, and stock air box is pretty free-flowing already.

 

Being a Toyota truck with in-range VIN. It's a safety recall so they better do it if your's is in range or they really, really, really put themselves in jeopardy for lawsuits.
