I can't count the number of times I walked someone through troubleshooting a problem at work. Usually something minor to fix. If they would listen and follow directions 95% of the time it was a switcher that missed its signal to change ports. Simple .. go press button 2 on the switcher. Is it working.. good problem solved and I don't have to drive in for a 10 second fix.

One day, a particular slow individual who could not follow.simple directions. Assured me it was switched to channel 2 knowing his inability to count or read or even stay awake on the job. I suspected when he assured me it was indeed on channel2 even though it still. Did not work.. I finally told him after I was 100%sure it was the problem. That I would take.time to drive up there and press the button for him. And in better not be the problem. For if it was he was going to earn the nickname "dumb ass"

I drive up, walk into the studio and instantly see the switcher was NOT on 2 as I directed him to do and he had with great confidence assured me it was on channel 2. Took 3 seconds to push the button and 30 minutes of driving. I walk out and said two simple words to him.

Just as good as the chopped in half work cable that the end user had to send the bare machine in twice they swore it was blown up.

Hour drive 10 minute walk to the welding department 30 seconds to spot the issue.

Maybe replace this work cable will give you results your looking for . If I need to ever go back that maintenance tech is always busy else where.

    A thing or two...
Troubleshooting is a lost art. Anymore, it's just replace parts until it works again without understanding the problem, or replace the whole thing.

I haven't really been to the 1st gen section since I got my GX, so I haven't seen you much. Good luck with school...

    Oh yeah no worries.

My 4R has been at a standstill as far as mods.

School will start in the coming months as our new house is being built; fresh start in a new house, new city, and back to school so will be fun.

Ok, so I have a stupid welding question but I'm sure you guys are used to that by now. I have a broken exhaust bolt inside the head that I've been trying for almost a month to get out. A few people said a welder should be able to fill the tiny hole with weld, and then weld a nut on and unscrew the bolt. The problem is, the broken bolt is pretty deep inside the head and of course it's a tiny one. A few YouTube videos say to insert a piece of copper tube to avoid the weld sticking to the threads. Do you guys think this will work?

And on a side note, if anyone is around LA with a small welder and some skill I can give you a few bucks to get this damn thing out.

Have an old Sears band saw I use, it’s nice having the original owners manual that lists literally every nut and bolt to replace if it needs to be repaired. Getting it to track right on the other hand without any knowledge was quite the undertaking, glad I took the time to learn how to set it up instead of giving up on it.

So many folks work their whole life at jobs they have no passion for -- suddenly one day you discover that you are old. :ballchain:

If you get up in the morning and look forward to getting to work that is value far more than money.

Good for you man, follow your dream! :jellydance:

Working 12 hr days, 5 days a week, for almost 10 years; I'm over it. Before that law enforcement and military.

Wife + her family + my friends all got my back so I'm doing it.

Thank you for the kind words :fistbump:

Thanks man, we didn't have experience until after we needed it. :fistbump:

By the time I realized the magnitude of my life screw ups it was too late to change, so I devoted the rest of my work years trying to teach the younger ones and encourage them to use their heads for more than a place to put a hat.

That said it is great when you see someone following their passion/dreams.

That bead was far to wide to be anything but trouble if it was important..

People get told the first time the second go get some fresh air for a few days.

Sorry I have yet to see a ugly weld pass most any test maybe we are far apart on just what is ugly.

Some of my welds that I would put in the "ugly" but strong category.

Its an 30deg double V open root joint on 3/8” plate so im not sure how narrow you expect the weld to be.
